How many nuclear weapons does the United States currently have?
Answer
A- (100%, 4 ratings) submitted by wickedwillie A+ , 97%, 757 ratings), May 28, 05
Although the United States has produced something like 70,000 nuclear weapons of 71 major types since their invention, there are now roughly 9600 nuclear weapons of 10 major types (as determined by the official designation system) in the U.S. arsenal. The official name of this arsenal is the "Enduring Stockpile" and it is divided into three categories of warhead readiness.
The three levels of stockpile readiness are:
-Active Service: Fully operational and mated with delivery systems
-"Hedge" Stockpile: Fully operational (or can be made so on short notice) but kept in storage away from delivery systems, delivery systems are available for them however (this category currently has no weapons assigned to it)
-Inactive Reserve: Weapon is kept basically intact, but is not maintained in operational condition (this principally means that tritium will not be stockpiled to charge the weapons tritium reservoirs), these weapons may not have ready-made delivery systems available

History of Army ROTC at OU
Est 1917 The University of Oklahoma Student Body President, Josh Lee, called a meeting of all male students in April, 1917. The purpose of the meeting was to determine the role of the University in the national military effort during peace and war. The response was unanimous. A three-man committee was formed to present this proposal to University President Stratton D. Brooks and request his support in forming a volunteer student infantry unit.
President Brooks approved formation of the Student Volunteer Regiment under the guidance of Professor Guy Williams and Dean S.W. Reaves. This basic training unit consisted of 12 companies: 9 of infantry, 1 medical, 1 signal, and 1 engineer. Drill for everyone was held for one hour on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons. Training was conducted for the rest of the school year with wooden rifles carved by the two faculty advisors. No other equipment or uniforms were available. The only distinctive insignia were armbands used to designate the officers and noncommissioned officers.
