The recreation of the original home of the Secretary of the Army is curiously small, given the significance of the American Revolution. But early Americans were wary of the military, since their history in colonial times with soldiers and sailors was unpleasant. The artifacts and displays here cleave to that theme. They show that early naval and military build ups were only reactions to attacks, not offensive actions. Actually, the Navy here has more exhibit space than the Army, since it
History
New Hall was an early government building in 1791, constructed by the Carpenters Company in 1791. Secretary of War Henry Knox moved his headquarters there, but his department was so small, he shared the building with the Carpenters Company, which held its guild meetings there. The building was demolished and rebuilt to its original specifications in the 1950s and 1960s as part of the Independence National Historical Park renovations. Photo G. Widman for GPTMC

Website: www.armymuseums.org.uk The Army Museums Ogilby Trust supports the development of those museums in the United Kingdom displaying the collections of the regiments and corps of the British Army.
Colonel Ogilby's view was that the most effective way in which he could contribute to the maintenance and development of the esprit de corps of the British Army was to promote a wider interest in military history and military scholarship by supporting the establishment and development of regimental and corps museums. He therefore established two Trusts: The Army Museums Ogilby Trust in 1954 and by a bequest from his estate, The Robert Ogilby Trust in 1973. These two trusts were amalgamated in December 1993 under the title of the Army Museums Ogilby Trust.

Museum mural by Michelle Loughery The Okanagan Military Museum's beginnings - The Okanagan Military Museum was established in 1998 as a result of the inspiration and efforts of a number of veteran's and retired Canadian Forces members working in conjunction with the founding organizations that supported the creation of a military museum in the annex of the Memorial Arena building. The location of the museum in the Memorial Arena is especially significant as this builing is Kelowna's "living memorial" dedicated to those who fought in the Second World War. Our Mission- The museum's mission is the protection, preservation and presentation of the Okanagan Valley's proud military heritage. This heritage includes the contribution made by valley residents to our national miltary history both as individuals and units serving in the armed forces of Canada, the Commonwealth and our allies. It also includes sites of historical significance such as the Vernon Military Camp and Commando Bay where special operations personnel were trained during WWII.

Mission Statement of the
Chinese Canadian Military Museum
T he Chinese Canadian Military Museum came into being November of 1998 with Howe Lee as the Founder and President. The museum is an integrated component of the Chinese Museum within the Chinese Cultural Centre complex in Vancouver’s Chinatown. The Chinese Canadian participation in the World Wars is largely unknown within and outside the Chinese communities yet their contribution changed the social landscape of Canada forever. Through their war efforts and the efforts of concerned citizens, the Chinese gained their franchise rights to citizenship and to vote, which in turn, led to membership in professional societies such as law and engineering previously closed to them. In short, the Chinese can finally enjoy the opportunities and rights as any other Canadians. The role of the museum is to collect, record and preserve artifacts, memorabilia and photographs and tell their wartime stories. In spite their courage and patriotism, the Canadian War Museum has no display of Chinese Canadian participation nor acknowledged them in the histories of the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force.

The "National Museum of Military History" (NMMH) emerged from the Diekirch Historical Museum (opened in 1984), which was primarily dedicated to the "Battle of the Bulge" in Luxembourg in winter 1944/45.
The key topic of the museum remains the balanced and objective historical representation of the military operations in the Ardennes from the American, German, and Civilian points of view. More than 1500 square metres of exhibition space and numerous life-size impressive dioramas give an insight into the dramatic and tragic situations that both soldiers and civilians were caught in.
A second part of the NMMH is dedicated to the history of Luxembourg's own armed forces from the creation of Luxembourg as a State to the present day. A number of large-scale striking dioramas cover the key aspects and periods of the post-WWII Luxembourg army.
Other sections are dedicated to Luxembourgers fighting in allied armies in WWI, WWII, and the Korean conflict. Luxembourg UN missions are also covered, and special displays provide an overview of daily military life.

The tank on the seafront Housed in the casemates (or barrack rooms) of a large Napoleonic fortress on the south-east coast of England since 1976, the Military Museum of Sussex at Eastbourne has grown into one of the largest museums of its kind in the country. The museum consists of several collections, primarily those of two distinguished regiments of the British Army, The Royal Sussex Regiment and The Queen's Royal Irish Hussars. The other major collection is that of the Sussex Combined Services Museum, which records all military ties with the county. Also housed in the fortress is half of the national collection of the British Model Soldier Society, with 1,531 soldiers of all periods and armies permanently on display.
