    Our Society's Formation After two years of workshops and planning, the Genealogical Society of Monroe Co. was formed, July 15, 1977. Many of the original founders are still active members. We thank them for all their diligence and fortitude. Our organization has been steadily growing since that historic day. With the support of every one of our members we will continue to grow in strength and knowledge. Purpose
    • To collect and preserve the records of our ancestors.
    • To encourage members in genealogical research.
    • To compile and maintain an archives of genealogical records and books through donations.

A person directly descended from a Michigan resident of 100 years or more ago was eligible to receive recognition. Those interested in being recognized were asked to complete an application and submit documentation of proof. An index to this source is available: Fiche F 565 .M48 1990. Library of Michigan Call Number: County Evolution in Michigan 1790-1897 The first part of this source consists of an alphabetical list of counties, including a chronological list of all legislative enactments affecting the county as a whole. The second part presents the evolution of the counties in a series of maps.
