    by John Holt
In clear, direct language, Learning All the Time describes the crucial difference between learning (making sense of the world) and education (being forced to digest and regurgitate what someone else dictates). Without vitriol, John Holt exposes how our children are harmed more than helped by institutional schools.

    Parent Involvement in Education
Kathleen Cotton and Karen Reed Wikelund INTRODUCTION It is no wonder that parent involvement with the schools has become a major educational issue in the 1980s. This is an era of increasing concern about the quality of education in this country. States are taking a greater role in monitoring and maintaining academic standards. Communities are ever more watchful of the expense of public education. Local schools are concerned about continuing to provide high-quality teaching and other services with dwindling resources. And parents want assurance that their children will receive adequate preparation to lead rewarding adult lives. Is parent involvement a valuable, if largely untapped, resource for schools struggling to provide state-ofthe -art instruction with diminishing fundsa way to instill pride and interest in schooling, increase student achievement, and enhance a sense of community and commitment? Or is it one more responsibility to add to overburdened teachers and administratorsor even a threat to the autonomy and professionalism of the schools? This review of the literature on parent involvement examines these issues, focusing, in particular on the following five areas:

The law divides the information in adoption records into two categories: non-identifying and identifying information . Non-identifying information is available upon request to adult adoptees, adoptive parents, birth parents, adult birth siblings and direct descendants of deceased adult adoptees. Identifying information is available to adult adoptees, birth parents, adult birth siblings and direct descendants of deceased adult adoptees but only if each consents to its release. I am the father of a school-age child who has autism. This is a collection of Internet and other resources which parents of children with PDD PDD-NOS autism Asperger's Syndrome , or hyperlexia may find useful. All the information concerns teaching methods that are a branch of applied behavior analysis (ABA) called behavioral intervention . One of the methods is discrete trial training . Some (inaccurately) use the term " Lovaas method." We worked hard to get complete information, implement a program, and have our school system pay for it. My hope is to help spare other parents (and their children) some of the pain and wasted time we went through. Here are all the helpful resources I've found, with the best places to start marked . The essentials of starting a program for your child are marked to . Please also see the frequently asked questions about ABA and autism .
