Lake Michigan lies between the two peninsulas. The Upper peninsula is very sparsely populated, more than 90% of the peninsula being forested. The Lower peninsula contains the cities, industry, and agriculture. The Upper and Lower Peninsulas were connected in 1957 with the construction of Big Mac, the Mackinac Bridge." Wyoming Lesson Plans Please note that with regard to lesson plans dealing with anthropology, archaeology, indigenous people, ancient civilizations, history, etc, there may be some cross-over and blurring of lines between the topics. For example, a lesson plan dealing with archaeology is automatically dealing with an anthropological subject. A lesson plan dealing with indigenous people is also automatically dealing with anthropology and any of them may, or may not, be dealing with history or ancient civilizations. While every attempt will be made to keep the topic lines as 'clean' as possible, be aware this may not always be possible. Appropriate grade or age levels are included with the lesson plans. The number of lesson plans available online for this topic is enormous. This site can not and does not index all lesson resources. That would be impossible, as sites appear and disappear with astonishing rapidity. The following provides some idea of what is available and will hopefully be a good starting point. Two Michigan Cities Receive Grants for Alternative Fuel Vehicles
Project description of a state energy office project dealing with energy efficiency and renewable energy that the State Energy Program (SEP) published in its bimonthly newsletter Conservation Update
October 2002
The CIS Energy Office has awarded $20,000 grants to the City of Lansing and the City of Ann Arbor to encourage alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) and alternative fuel purchases by local fleets. Most public and private fleet owners in Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, and Washtenaw counties will be eligible for cash incentives that offset some of the incremental costs for AFVs and to offset some alternative fuel costs. The projects will include an educational campaign to inform fleet drivers and local citizens about the use of alternative fuels in the community and their environmental benefits. The grants support Greater Lansing and Ann Arbor's participation in DOE's Clean Cities program. Clean Cities promotes voluntary AFV use and infrastructure development to help the U.S. achieve energy security and improved air quality with clean burning, domestically produced alternative fuels. The Center is playing a central role in developing and African area studies seminars (in the U.S.) and business study tours to Africa for business faculty from participating HBCUs. Study tours to Bostwana and South Africa are scheduled for summer 2005 and 2006. Government: The Outreach Program seeks to provide assistance and respond to African initiatives at the local, state and federal levels in the United States. Most recently, the outreach program has worked collaboratively with the other MSU National Resource Centers in initiating an annual seminar Michigan and the Global Economy, for state of Michigan legislators, state departments, and their aides. The inaugural seminar which focused on issues of food safety was held at the Michigan capitol building on May 11, 2004.
