Careers in Atmospheric Research and Applied meteorology National WeatherService forecasts help the general public and large specialinterest groups
http://www.ametsoc.org/AMS/pubs/careers.html
The original booklet was produced under the direction of a committee chaired by Warren M. Washington that included Werner A. Baum, Todd Glickman, Ronald D. McPherson, and Pamela Stephens, with input from a large number of AMS members. Henry Lansford, a science writer and communication consultant based in Boulder, Colorado, wrote the booklet and supervised its design and production. It was designed and produced by Michael Shibao of the Graphic Services group at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, which is operated by the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research under the sponsorship of the National Science Foundation. It was reproduced in electronic format for the World Wide Web by staff of the American Meteorological Society.
Careers in Atmospheric Research and Applied Meteorology CONTENTS [tm]

WHY METEOROLOGY? Thousands of career choices are available in our fast-changing society. Why would you choose atmospheric science or applied meteorology? You will find very specific answers in the following pages, but here is a quick look at some of the challenges of our changing atmosphere: Do you have a deep curiosity about the world around you? As a meteorologist, you can satisfy that curiosity by investigating the natural forces that shape our weather and climate. You can look for answers to important questions that our society is asking-how can we save lives, how can we protect our environment? You can use your knowledge to warn others when danger is approaching in the form of tornadoes and

In the Warren and Timcke years many Bureau publications were produced using waxed stencils and roneo machines for typing and reproduction. Exceptions were printed Rainfall Reviews and Bulletins containing what were considered to be important scientific contributions to meteorological knowledge. But the issues of the TWRB from May 1944 to April 1946, the WDRB from April 1945 to August 1951 and the AMM , in the Timcke years, were all produced using wax-stencils and roneo machines. Despite the lack of sophistication in the methods of reproduction the publications were interesting and informative. In these earlier years the Training Section was responsible for coordination of Bureau publications. E. W. Timcke originally intended that the

    Research projects and experiments
The research focus of the Meteorology and Air Quality group is on the understanding of processes in the Atmospheric Boundary Layer, with particular emphasis on the interaction of the atmosphere with the (vegetated) land surface. This includes the measuring and modelling of the relevant atmospheric and related land-surface processes on the local and regional scale. Our PhD students work on a variety of topics, ranging from microscale to mesoscale. The group cooperates within the Wageningen Institute on Environmental and Climate Studies and the Research School on Production Ecology and Resource Conservation . In addition, our group cooperates also with Utrecht University in the 'Buys Ballot School' directed on research and education on fundamental processes in the climate system.

This web site of the Bering Sea, one of the world's major fisheries, follows an explosion of interest in Northern Hemisphere climate study. Scientists here recognize a symmetric problem: climate change impacts ecosystems, and ecosystems serve as indicators for climate change. This site describes ecological and climatic indices for the Bering Sea which will serve as measures of climate and ecosystem status: weather, oceanographic and climate data, sea ice data, and fisheries and other biological data. This transitional website contains the main set of time series which will form the basis of a small set of Bering climate/ecosystem indices.
