Its research focuses mostly on agroecology, commercial and educational uses ofremote The Agrometeorology Laboratory is also located at the ARDC.
http://snr.unl.edu/programs/labfieldsite.asp
The School of Natural Resources is well endowed with research sites and laboratory facilities. It has access to 17 field sites on property owned by the University of Nebraska and 10 field sites owned by the Nature Conservancy or the Audubon Society. These sites are well distributed across the state and over a variety of landscapes. They include tall grass, mixed grass and short grass prairies, wetlands, woodlands and rangelands, streamside habitat and agro-ecosystems. Field work outside the state is just as significant, and our faculty have access to a wide variety of research sites across the country and around the world.
The School also has numerous labs for a variety of research and teaching purposes. These include:
  • An aquatic ecology and limnology (lake study) lab, housing an indoor microcosm facility with 32 artificial streams and 25 1,000-liter tanks; A climate and bio-atmospheric teaching laboratory, which houses eight computers on a local network and plenty of countertop space for experiments;

he NOAA Research Laboratories conduct an integrated program of fundamental research, technology development, and services to improve understanding of the Earth and its oceans and inland waters, the lower and upper atmosphere, and the space environment. The Laboratories and their field stations are located across the country and around the world. The 11 Laboratories have established formal collaborative agreements with universities/non-profit research institutions to form 13 Joint Institutes that are centers of scientific excellence pertaining to the earth's oceans, inland waters, intermountain west, atmosphere, arctic, and solar-terrestrial environment. Aeronomy Laboratory (AL)
Boulder, CO
The Aeronomy Laboratory conducts fundamental research on the chemical and physical processes of the earth's atmosphere, concentrating on the lower two layers known as the troposphere and stratosphere. Through laboratory, modeling, and field research, AL scientists are advancing the scientific understanding of chemical and physical processes related to the ozone layer, the climate system, and air quality. The overall aim of Aeronomy Laboratory research is to improve the capability to observe, understand, predict, and protect the quality of the atmosphere. Dr. Daniel Albritton, Director

Providing timely weather information for Brookhaven
Environmental Sciences Department
Earth Systems Science Division
Weather conditions at the BNL site have been recorded since August 1948. BNL is broadly influenced by continental and maritime weather systems. Locally, the major weather systems are modified by the Long Island Sound, the Atlantic Ocean and associated bays, which influence wind directions and humidity, and provide a moderating influence on extreme summer and winter temperatures. BNL is a well-ventilated site, with an annual distribution of wind direction reflecting a predominance of westerly components. Prevailing winds are from the southwest during the summer, from the northwest during the winter, and about equally from these two directions during the spring and fall.

One of ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies and national security. Brookhaven Lab also builds and operates major scientific facilities available to university, industry and government researchers. Brookhaven is operated and managed for DOE’s Office of Science by Brookhaven Science Associates, a limited-liability company founded by Stony Brook University, the largest academic user of Laboratory facilities, and Battelle, a nonprofit, applied science and technology organization.

Processes of interest include microwave propagation effects, cloud and fog formation, turbulence, localized precipitation events, and air-ocean-wave interactions. Additional research efforts focus on improving our overall understanding of buoyant and shear driven turbulent transports within and outside clouds; and on assessing the relative importance of aerosols; radiative and latent heating; surface forcing; and entrainment to cloudy, partially cloudy, or clear environments.

    Unidata Equipment Awards
    The primary purpose of the Unidata Community Equipment Awards is to encourage new members from diverse disciplinary backgrounds in the geosciences to join the Unidata community, and for existing members to continue their active participation so as to enhance the community process. We will accept equipment proposals from academic institutions engaged in teaching and research in the geosciences for the deployment of Unidata-supported systems. It is the intent of this award program to assist institutions wishing to participate actively in the Unidata community; to assist those who have participated actively in the past but need system upgrades to meet the standards currently recommended for deploying Unidata systems; and to assist organizations from disciplines outside of the atmospheric community who can provide and support important and relevant datasets and tools to the Unidata community at no cost. Small institutions, institutions that have not previously submitted proposals to this program, and institutions outside Unidata's traditional atmospheric sciences community are especially encouraged to apply.

    For centuries, mankind has sought to harness the power and learn the secrets of the atmosphere and oceans that surround us. Public safety, transportation, military strategy, commerce, agriculture, recreation, and other fundamental aspects of our daily lives are directly affected by the whims of nature. Scientists have long recognized that untapped regions of the oceans may hold medical cures and new resources while weather and atmospheric phenomenon still hold many mysteries. The Meteorology and Ocean Sciences (MOS) Laboratory engages these important disciplines in the public interest.
    Purpose
    The MOS Laboratory provides capabilities to support a growing list of clients. Within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the lab supports the National Weather Service (NWS), the National Ocean Service, and the Office of Ocean Exploration. Within the Department of Transportation, the lab supports the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA’s) Road Weather Management program. In the area of meteorology, the lab provides expertise in the development and prototyping of radar data processing, algorithm development, and visualization and productivity tools. In the ocean sciences, the lab supports the evaluation, maintenance and deployment of physical oceanographic sensors and vehicles.
    • NWS Systems Engineering Center’s Next Generation Weather Radar (NEXRAD) Product Improvement Program depends on the MOS Laboratory for continued development of capabilities and analytical tools associated with the Open Systems Radar Product Generator (ORPG)
