How to Configure Memory Protection in Windows XP SP2
Published: December 9, 2004 On This Page Introduction Before You Begin Enabling DEP for all Programs on Your Computer Enabling the DEP Exception List ... Related Information
Introduction
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) helps protect your computer against the insertion of malicious code into areas of computer memory reserved for non-executable code by implementing a set of hardware and software-enforced technologies called Data Execution Prevention (DEP). Hardware-enforced DEP is a feature of certain processors that prevents the execution of code in memory regions that are marked as data storage. This feature is also known as No-Execute and Execution Protection. Windows XP SP2 also includes software-enforced DEP that is designed to reduce exploits of exception handling mechanisms in Windows. Unlike an antivirus program, hardware and software-enforced DEP technologies are not designed to prevent harmful programs from being installed on your computer. Instead, they monitor your installed programs to help determine if they are using system memory safely. To monitor your programs, hardware-enforced DEP tracks memory locations declared as "non-executable". To help prevent malicious code, when memory is declared "non-executable" and a program tries to execute code from the memory, Windows will close that program. This occurs whether the code is malicious or not.

I plan on installing dedicated hosted Redhat Linux (6.2 or 7.1 I have yet to decide so maybe you guys can tell me which one is better) on a AMD 650 pc, with 256mb RAM, 20gig hd.
I will have Linux Apache, MySql, Php with zlib option, which is going to be more current than the requirements vBulletin lists on your website here.
Which version of Redhat should I use as my web server's OS? 6.2 or 7.1 ?
This will help me make my decision to migrate UBB to vBulletin. Thanks in advance. Regards, tubedogg Jan 23rd 2002, 2:16pm You will need more than 256MB of RAM. 512MB is probably a minimum for that many users.
As far as OS I am not familiar enough with Linux to answer that. ubbuser Jan 23rd 2002, 2:23pm Hmm interesting answer. thanks.
What about say, supporting 100-150 concurrent users? Thx again. ubbuser Jan 23rd 2002, 2:26pm Also, I read in the FAQ forum a message which was posted May 2001 that vBulletin works with 6.2 redhatlinux fine. Had some issues with Redhat Linux 7.0

    n. Memory, often as simulated on a hard disk, that emulates RAM, allowing an application to operate as though the computer has more memory than it actually does.
var tcdacmd="cc=edu;dt"; Technology virtual memory Simulating more memory than actually exists, allowing the computer to run larger programs or more programs concurrently. It breaks up the program into small segments, called "pages," and brings as many pages from disk into memory that fit into a reserved area for that program. When additional pages are required, it makes room for them by swapping them to disk. It keeps track of pages that have been modified so that they can be retrieved when needed again. If instructions in a very large program point back and forth to opposite ends of the program, excessive disk accesses (thrashing) can slow down execution if the entire program is not in memory. Hardware Is Required
Virtual memory can be implemented in software only, but efficient operation requires virtual memory hardware. Virtual memory claims are sometimes made for specific applications that bring additional parts of the program in as needed; however, true virtual memory is a hardware and operating system implementation that works with all applications. Real-time Signal Processing using Hardware Co-simulation
The shared memory interfaces available in System Generator allow signal processing designs with high bandwidth and memory requirements to be co-simulated using FPGA hardware. When used in conjunction with the Xilinx Shared Memory Read and Write blocks, it is possible for hardware co-simulation designs to process complete Simulink vector and matrix signals in a single simulation cycle. These large data transactions between Simulink and the FPGA are realized using DMA transfers, providing throughput sufficient for real-time signal processing applications. In this document we present a high-speed co-simulation buffering interface implemented as a System Generator model. The interface is discussed first, followed by an example in which the interface is used to support real-time processing of a video stream using a 5x5 filter kernel. Lastly, we describe how an additional unprotected shared memory is applied to the system to support dynamic reloading of the image kernel during co-simulation.
    Shared Memory I/O Buffering Example
When a lockable shared memory is compiled for hardware co-simulation, additional circuitry is included in the FPGA to the handle the mutual exclusion. Part of this circuitry includes logic to enable high-speed transfers of the memory image when the FPGA acquires or releases lock of the memory. We take advantage of the lockable shared memory mutual exclusion semantics to implement a high-speed I/O buffering interface for hardware co-simulation. This section describes this interface, which is included as an example model in your System Generator software installation.
