    109. An Experimental Study On 472 Herbs
Abstract relating antiviral actions on herpes simplex virus by Zheng Min Shi Department of microbiology Jiangxi medical University,China. From Journal of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine , Vol.10, No.1, pp 3941, 1990. Results showed ten highly effective Chinese herbal medicine and related formulas used in treatment of herpes.

An Experimental Study on 472 Herbs Relating Antiviral Actions on Herpes Simplex Virus By Zheng Min Shi
    Department of Microbiology
Jiangxi Medical University, (330006), China From "Journal of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine", Vol.10, No.1, pp 39-41, 1990. Using tissue culture method, the above study was primarily concerned with evaluating the antiviral effects of 472 traditional medicinal herbs comprising raw material 10mg/ml, through both initial (qualitative) and repeated (quantitative) screens, on type 1 herpes simplex virus. When dealing with water and alcoholic extracts, herbs found effective during initial screens were reduced after repeated screens by a range of 28.8 - 80.0 percent. Employing the basic value attained by the simultaneous route of drug administration, a stepwise declining of effective herbs would be: The more the routes of drug administration the less the multiple-route simultaneous efficacy of a herb. Through repeated screens, 10 highly effective herbs were identified:
    • Aristolochia debilis Artemisia anomala Lindera strychnifolia Patrina villosa Pinus massiana Prunella vulgaria Pyrrosia lingua Rhus chinensis Sargussum fusiforme and Taraxacum mongolicum
Clinically, among the 78 cases of herpetic keratitis due to HSV1 treated by Pyrrosia lingua and Prunella vulgaris eye drops, a cure was effected in 38 and an improvement in 37 with 3 being of no benefit.

Offers major teaching programs at the medical student and post graduate level, including clinical pathology and anatomic pathology residencies and fellowships in transfusion medicine, microbiology and hematologyhemtaopathology.
    http://info.med.yale.edu/labmed/
Our Mission The Department of Laboratory Medicine is devoted to the study of the molecular and cellular constituents of blood and other body fluids for the diagnosis and management of illness and for the investigation of the mechanisms and pathogenesis of disease. The Department carries out its patient care mission by assuming responsibility for the clinical laboratories; its faculty conduct both basic and applied research, and offer major teaching programs at the medical student and post graduate level. The Department provides clinical laboratory testing for Yale-New Haven Medical Center. It also serves as a regional reference laboratory for New England, and as a national reference laboratory for various advanced diagnostic assays. Approximately four million tests are performed each year. Committed to providing a broad array of state-of-the-art, cost-effective testing, Laboratory Medicine faculty regularly translate developing technology into routine practice, both as new tests and as better versions of existing tests. Faculty research interests span a broad range and include molecular virology and immunology, stem cell transplantation and gene therapy, cellular adhesion, platelet biology, hemostasis, clinical pharmacology and toxicology, tropical medicine, microbial pathogenesis, molecular diagnostics, structural biology, and laboratory instrumentation and automation. The Department also carries out post-doctoral research training of MDs, MD/PhDs and PhDs under the auspices of a special NIH sponsored program for "Immunohematology and Transfusion Medicine Post-Doctoral Research Training" with participating faculty from both Laboratory Medicine and a number of other basic science and bridge departments.
