Overview
The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) is part of the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP). Our mission is to provide timely and accurate forecasts and watches for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes over the contiguous United States. The SPC also monitors heavy rain, heavy snow, and fire weather events across the U.S. and issues specific products for those hazards. We use the most advanced technology and scientific methods available to achieve this goal. If you are interested in the history of the SPC we have a set of pages that document much of the history of the SPC The SPC uses its suite of products to relay forecasts of organized severe weather as much as three days ahead of time, and continually refines the forecast up until the event has concluded. All products issued by the Storm Prediction Center are available on the World Wide Web. Our products are commonly used by local National Weather Service offices, emergency managers, TV and radio meteorologists, private weather forecasting companies, the aviation industry, storm spotters, agriculture, educational institutions and many other groups. A detailed description of all of the SPC products is available

Cicero, the much noted Roman statesman and orator (106-43 B.C.), said, "If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." I wonder what he would say if he were alive today to see and use the Internet. He would have almost instantaneous access to thousands of libraries, universities, government agencies, web sites, and news groups around the world. Of particular interest to him might be the many Internet sites that have information on gardening, farming, and other aspects of horticulture. So I'm going to take you on a tour of a few dozen of those horticultural related Web Sites and news groups to show you what they are like. I have chosen most of them based on the fact that I have used them and found useful information and, of course, some new friends. For veteran users this will provide some new places to surf and check out. For those who have not yet made the jump into cyberspace, I hope this will give an indication of the type of resources that are available.

'Iraqi scientists tested by Mossad - in Cyprus'
A rather bizzare claim surfacing in Bahrain's Akhbar al-Khaleej newspaper: The pro-government daily quoted Iraqi diplomats who used to work in the Iraqi embassy in Rabat, the Moroccan capital, as saying the network was led by a Jewish Moroccan religious leader with support from the Israeli secret service, the Mossad, and with the cooperation of an Iraqi representative in Morocco. They said that scientists and their families were smuggled into Cyprus where they would be "tested" by Mossad agents. If they were up to the qualifications Israel was seeking, they would be taken to Israel; if not, they are reportedly granted asylum in another European country. The unidentified sources said that about 35 Iraqi families were taken to Israel and that more than 80 other families received asylum in Belgium and other European countries. 'Satanism Fears Groundless' Minister
So the headline runs in the Sunday edition of the 'Cyprus Mail'. You might have assumed that this related to the continuing debate in government and church circles about the true author of the Annan Plan. Rather the concern is related to fortune tellers and the rather quaint practice of reading coffee cups, a resource which might be as reliable as some opinion polls in divining the outcome of the up and coming referenda:

McGee. :-D If you don't already know what those subjects and issues are, you will find out soon enough. :-D I will say that my main interests in some way relate to people of African descent around the world. For those folk who are like minded, you should find something that interests you to some degree. Hopefully, I have saved you some effort and work, by making this list easily available. :-) Please let me know of any updates, additions, corrections or suggestions that you might have. Thank you very much. Peace. The absolute latest versions of all of my lists are always available via anonymous FTP from ftp.netcom.com in directory pub/amcgee. Agricultural Trade Issues
Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy
The Trade and Agriculture Program of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy focuses on international trade policies, practices, and treaties that affect consumers, farmers and rural communities in the United States and around the world. Food First is a member-supported, nonprofit 'peoples' think tank and education-for-action center. Our work highlights root causes and value-based solutions to hunger and poverty around the world, with a commitment to establishing food as a fundamental human right. Food First produces books, reports, articles, films, electronic media, and curricula, plus interviews, lectures, workshops and academic courses for the public, policy makers, activists, the media, students, educators and researchers. We participate in activist coalitions and furnish clearly written and carefully researched analyses, arguments and action plans for people who want to help change the world. Food First provides leadership to the struggle for reforming the global food system from the bottom up, offering an antidote to the myths and obfuscations that make change seem difficult to achieve. International Center for Trade and Sustainable Development The International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) was established in Geneva in September 1996 to contribute to a better understanding of development and environment concerns in the context of international trade.

William B. Feidt
The World Wide Web (WWW) offers a medium well suited to the dissemination of information about conferences and workshops. The AgNIC initiative has created a WWW based calendar known as "Agricultural Conferences, Meetings, Seminars Calendar" or more briefly, AgCal. Its URL is
AgCal consists of a series of indexes that offer over 1,200 links to WWW pages containing information about mainly scientific meetings of interest to the AgNIC audience. As a rule, the calendar points to pages created and maintained by a meeting's organizers, but in some cases AgCAL will create a simple WWW page, mounted locally, and based on information posted by the organizer to a subject oriented mailing list or USENET newsgroup.
AgCal also includes an index of agriculture-related calendars maintained by other organizations, currently numbering approximately 190.
Easily the most difficult aspect of maintaining a system such as AgCal is identifying and securing information about the conferences themselves. To deal with this, the project has implemented a five pronged approach: 1) Regular monitoring of subject oriented mailing lists; 2) Regular monitoring of USENET newsgroups; 3) Regular review of calendars maintained by others; 4) E-mail solicitation to conference organizers; and 5) Use of WWW search engines.
The paper discusses mechanisms adopted in creating and maintaining AgCal, problems encountered, suggested actions for conference organizers to better disseminate information about their meetings via the WWW, and future directions or AgCal.

This page has been accessed since 28 May 1996. During the course of the last ten years or so, I've written many comments to students on their papers. Some of those comments, I believe, are valuable to other students, particularly those that explain where they have made errors or missed something. Thus, I've included here some of those commentaries in hopes they may guide present and future students to avoid those same errors or omissions (especially since they AFFECT YOUR GRADES!!! (not too subtle, I trust)). I've also included elements of various articles I'm working on. They are incomplete, being in the process, but may be of use as you work on your own writings.

The video is designed as a woman-to-woman message, with real people (primarily women) speaking from their hearts.
