Nature of the Work About this section Back to Top Mechanical engineers research, develop, design, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices. They work on power-producing machines such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines. They also develop power-using machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing. Mechanical engineers also design tools that other engineers need for their work. The field of nanotechnology, which involves the creation of high-performance materials and components by integrating atoms and molecules, is introducing entirely new principles to the design process. Computers assist mechanical engineers by accurately and efficiently performing computations, and by permitting the modeling and simulation of new designs as well as facilitating changes to existing designs. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) are used for design data processing and for turning the design into a product.

What is Mechanical Engineering Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest engineering disciplines, having culminated from the industrial revolution of the 19th century. Traditionally concerned with harnessing and converting energy forms, mechanical engineers are inherently multi-disciplinary. For example, the design of a car engine combines the fields of chemistry, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, electronic controls, dynamics and vibrations, materials science, and mechanical design. Although the mechanical engineer may specialize in one of these fields, a cursory knowledge of each of these fields is necessary to interact with other engineers. News Item : IMF says Sky-high oil prices here to stay WASHINGTON (April 08 2005): The International Monetary Fund said on Thursday that rising living standards in China and the rest of the developing world will keep oil prices sky-high for decades to come, with even 100 dollars a barrel not ruled out. As recent headlines bear out, the need for energy efficient green buildings has never been greater. Today’s global competition for natural resources is pushing ‘green’ building technology to the core of mainstream practice. At The Green Engineer we’ll help you manage this transition to construct the high-performance buildings today that will be the design standards of the future. The Green Engineer is led by Christopher Schaffner P.E. - The Green Engineer. A professional mechanical engineer, registered in Massachusetts and California , Chris has 18 years of experience in the design of building systems with a focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. A long time promoter of sustainable design, Chris has been a member of the U S Green Building Council’s (USGBC) faculty since 2001, training more than 2,400 building industry professionals in the use of the LEED Rating System.

Mechanical engineering
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Ford Essex V6 engine Mechanical engineering is the application of physical principles to the creation of useful reality for machine design. Such solid models may be used as the basis for finite element analysis (FEA) and / or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of the design. Through the application of computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), the models may also be used directly by software to create "instructions" for the manufacture of objects represented by the models, through computer numerically-controlled (CNC) machining or other automated processes, without the need for intermediate drawings. Fundamental subjects of mechanical engineering include: dynamics statics strength of materials heat transfer ... kinematics , and applied thermodynamics . Mechanical engineers are also expected to understand and be able to apply concepts from the chemistry and electrical engineering fields. At the smallest scales, mechanical engineering becomes molecular engineering - one speculative goal of which is to create a molecular assembler to build molecules and materials via mechanosynthesis . For now this goal remains within exploratory engineering , and some consider it science fiction Related disciplines include;
