On this historically and politically great day we were fortunate not only to manifest our class solidarity and proletarian demands together with the whole world proletariat, not only to demonstrate against the existing capitalist regime, but also to count our ranks, to measure our forces and to review the road travelled, fortifying our conviction that the workers' socialist movement in Bulgaria, despite all ups and downs, is properly developing and forging ahead. When pointing out these successes, however, one should not forget that although quite a bit has been done and achieved by our organizations,it is still far from sufficient. Much more is required to have them reach the degree of intensity, consciousness and discipline necessary for a victorious organization of the forthcoming workers' struggles. The percentage of trade union members in Bulgaria is very small. Hundreds of workers, men and women, are still outside the reach of socialist propaganda, and have not yet been inspired by the idea of organization and organizational struggle. - Howard Johnson (c. 1915)
From the first hug, the first lullaby, begins her gift of love. As your teacher, guide and friend she is truly a WOW woman. On Mother's Day make your Mom feel special and thank her for her caring ways. And that's not all, Mother's Day is also for you to wish all your friends and family members who are moms! Make this Mom's day memorable. Make her smile with a fun wish !! Moms have always been celebrated. In ancient Greece the Mother of all Gods, Rhea, was honored in springtime festivities. In England, since the 1600's, "Mothering Sunday" has been celebrated (the 4th Sunday of Lent). It wasn't until 1872 that Mothers' Day in the United States was even suggested. Julia Ward Howe suggested it be a day of peace.
In 1907 Anna Jarvis began campaigning to establish a national Mothers' Day. She started by convincing her mother's church in Grafton, West Virginia, to honor the memory of her mother on the anniversary of her mother's death (the second Sunday in May). The following year, Philadelphia also celebrated Mothers' Day. By 1911 Mothers' Day was celebrated in almost every state in the US. Then finally in 1914 President Woodrow Wilson made Mothers' Day an official national holiday, celebrated on the second Sunday in May.

... Sparkling Hearts Valentine's Puzzles Trace heart shape onto heavy paper (i.e. poster board) for each student. Instruct students to write a Valentine's sentiment neatly on heart shape. (Encourage creativity.) When messages have been written, instruct students to cut out heart shapes. Students should then outline puzzle pieces onto reverse side of heart, then proceed to cut these out. Upon completion, each heart's pieces should be stored in a separate bag. Exchange bags. Allow students to piece together puzzles and read messages.
My Special Valentine Draw 8" heart with lines for writing. Photocopy onto pink or white construction paper. (Red is too dark for writing to be clearly visible.) Provide each student with scrap paper and instruct students to write a special valentine's message to parents. (A good starter is the phrase, "I love you because . . .") When students have finished writing, instruct them to exchange rough drafts and review spelling and grammar. Each student should have three other students review his work. The teacher may answer any questions, but should not provide unsolicited assistance.
Instruct students to copy corrected text neatly onto ruled heart. Students should then cut out heart shape and decorate reverse side. Provide as many materials as possible for decoration (i.e. glitter paints, glue, colored paper, foil, markers, stickers, etc.).

70. The Holiday Zone: Arts And Crafts For Labor Day
Pages include Labor day games, arts and crafts, reading comprehension (A town with 1000 people, for instance, may need only one doctor s officer;
http://www.theholidayzone.com/labor/art.html
Arts and Crafts Create-A-Town
Divide students into groups of four to six. Give each group a sheet of poster board. Direct each group to plan a town. Each town will be at least half an hour from neighboring towns, so students will need to make sure their town includes all necessary servicesdoctor's office, gas station, grocery store, hospital, mechanic, police, post office, schools, etc.
Ask each group to draw a map of its town on the posterboard. On the back of the board, students should list the workers they will need to keep their towns running. More advanced students should include demographic information about their towns. (A town with 1,000 people, for instance, may need only one doctor's officer; but a city with 100,000 will need more than one doctor.)
After each group completes its town, it can create a informational brochure on its town. The brochure should include drawings of the town's main attractions. It should also tell what kinds of jobs are available in the area.
When all groups are finished, each group may present its town to the class. Students should vote to select the best town. (Encourage students to be practical. An amusement park in town might be nice, but it the town lacks a fire department or a high school, it's probably not the best place to live.) If desired, you might add other awards such as most attractive town, most interesting town, largest town, quietest town, etc.
History of Labor
Research the history of labor in the U.S. or another country. Make a list of events that had a major impact on the common laborer (i.e. end of slave labor; restriction of child labor; standard eight-hour work day; rise of unions; minimum wage law; equal pay laws; etc.). Create a pictoral time line using these events.
