General Info Climate Places of Interest Shopping ... Mauritius Climate Climate Mauritius is an all-year-round holiday resort saved from extreme temperatures. In the summer months, from November to April, the temperature varies from 20° C to 28° C on the Central Plateau and from 25° C to 33° Con thecoast. Relative Humidity is generally highthroughout the year being highest on the Central Plateau. The least humid region is the West Coast
From May to October, the average temperature is 19° C in the centre of the island, rarely falling under 13° C at night.
Rainfall varies considerably from region to region and throughout the year. The rainy season occurs from January to March - especially on the Central Plateau. Cyclones may occur between November and February.
On the coast, all temperatures are about 5° C higher. The sea temperature approaches 27° C in summertime and is down to 22° C inwinter. The hours of daylight are approximately from 05:00 to 19:00 in summer and 06:00 to 17:30 in June, July and August - the winter months.

Geography :
The country includes Rodrigues, which is an island 560 kms to its North-East, and other scattered islands such as Agalega and Cargados Carajos (St. Brandon). Mauritius is approximately 855 kms off the east coast of Madagascar, Africa, is the nearest continent, with Mombassa, in Kenya, which is some 1800 kms away. Mauritius is about 10 million years old and is a volcanic island, consisting of only 1865 square kilometres in area.
Climate : Our beautiful island enjoys tropical temperature all year round. Summer is from November to April, and Winter from May to October.
The cyclonic season occurs in January and February.

Mauritius is an island with surface area of 720 square miles, situated just above the Tropic of Capricorn , in the south of Indian Ocean, with Being of a volcanic origin, Mauritius has a central plateau which is about 400 metres above sea level. Mountains scattered throughout the island, tropical forests and plants are other feathers that add to the natural beauty of the island. With more than 90 miles of white sandy beaches and the transparent lagoon are protected from the open sea by the world's third largest coral reef which almost surrounds the island.
LANGUAGES English is the official language. French is understood most over the island. Creole is spoken throughout the island. CURRENCY The Mauritian unit of currency is the rupee (Rs), which is divided into 100 cents (c). There are coins of 5, 10, 20, 25, and 50 cents, and Rs 1, 5 and 10.
