EDUCATION INTERNSHIPS Closed! The Crow Canyon Archaeological Center's mission is to initiate and conduct archaeological research and public education programs in partnership with Native Americans and institutions with common interests. The Center is located in southwestern Colorado near the town of Cortez and close to Mesa Verde National Park. EDUCATION The Crow Canyon education department, using experiential education methods, engages learners of all ages in an inclusive and dynamic study of the human past. The staff works toward this goal by teaching about past and present cultures of the Southwest, investigating student learning, and communicating the Center's educational methods and theories to others. The work of the department is guided by a respect for Native American peoples and is conducted in collaboration with other communities. (This of course will result in his speaking fees increasing faster than his bookings at colleges around the country and in France.) Still, it is interesting to see that Churchill's poseur status has been known for well over a decade. By everyone, it would seem, other than his employers and publishers. What follows is a transcription of part of the text of the letter discussing a call Harjo received from one Regina Brave. Ms Brave asserted: "...that she knew WC [Ward Churchill] when he surfaced in Boulder as an Indian of several other tribes before he settled on Cherokee/Creek/Metis, and that she never bought into his assertion that he was an Indian of any kind; 2) that another of the 'judges in Bellngham, Washington shared her concerns, and another, a woman from Canada, was on a scholarship at the University of Colorado and living with WC and his wife; 3) that she has heard WC claim that he provided firearms going into Wounded Knee in 1973; and 4) that she overheard WC tell another white man ... that he was an expert witness in the Bernard Escamillo trial in Council Bluffs, and that she called one of the men associated with the trial that said WC was not a defense witness, but that he recognized WC's name as a prosecution witness... From the way she relates a story, it could go either way...but it is a lead to follow tht might have documentable clues about not only what but who WC is.

Monzon's project is titled, “Activation of red form I algal Rubisco from Plocamium cartilagineum.” UNM Biology Professor David Hanson, an ASPB member, sponsored her. “I’m so honored to be a recipient of the 2005 ASPB Summer Undergraduate Fellowship,” said Monzon. “This is a tremendous commitment that will allow me to expand my horizons in plant biology.” The $3,000 fellowship will permit Monzon to devote full-time effort to a lab project for a 10-week period this coming summer. The award also includes $500 for lab supplies, a free membership in ASPB, and travel grant assistance for Monzon to attend the 2006 ASPB Plant Biology Meeting in Boston. With this undergraduate fellowship opportunity, ASPB offers students experiences to help them consider pursuing advanced degrees and careers in plant biology. The JDC is also coordinating the Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief, a consortium of nearly 50 Jewish organizations. In Thailand, 18 Israeli volunteers with the grim expertise of locating and identifying the dead are working to recover bodies and prepare some for shipment to their native lands. With an eye toward assisting the living, the American Jewish World Service raised $2 million in the week after the undersea earthquake in the Indian Ocean triggered the massive tidal waves that left an estimated 180,000 dead and millions homeless. As it has with its intervention in the plight of refugees in the Sudan, Messinger said her organization will take part in the Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief. As worldwide efforts intensify, so, too, does Jewish fundraising at the grassroots level.
