GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING, FACULTY OF ENGINEERING DIVISION OF MATERIALS SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING
The division is divided into 3 groups, Materials and Process Design, Materials Process Engineering, and Materials Chemistry. These groups consist of 12 laboratories, and their activities cover the designing and characterizing of new materials, mainly metal and inorganic substance, and the controlling of material functions. The division is well equipped with a fully computerized system for metallurgical studies, a mass-spectrometer, an FT-IR spectrometer, X-ray diffraction apparatus, scanning electron microscopes, and X-ray photoelectron spectrometers. This division provides, in collaboration with Division of Molecular chemistry and Catalysis Research Center, systematically organized graduate curriculum for advanced studies of chemistry and engineering of materials.
GRADUATE CURRICULUM
Students are required to take at least 30 credits for the Master's degree and 10 more credits for the Doctoral degree. The following subjects are grouped into three courses: Materials and Process Design, Materials Process Engineering, and Materials Chemistry. Generally, two of the subject groups must be studied in the Master's course and one more subject group is required in the Doctoral course.

Since classes began in 1868, WPI has prepared young men and women for careers in materials processing. Many WPI alumni and faculty members have established materials processing companies, including Norton Company, Wyman-Gordon, and PresMet. The M.S. degree program in materials processing engineering continues this outstanding legacy by providing engineers, scientiests, and managers the knowledge, skills, and experience to become entrepreneurs, trend setters, and executives in the materials processing industry in the 21st century. This 30-credit program offers the opportunity for serious professionals to become leaders by selecting courses from three programs:
