The results were quite clear: 95% of respondents are comfortable with the e-mailed ads. Here are some of your comments: "I don't mind receiving ads as long as they come from you and my email address is NOT released to anyone else. " "Thanks for not selling email addresses!!" "At last glance, I counted a half dozen geospatial portals and email newsletters that funnel me all the PR I need (can stand?). Then there's the Monitor . The Monitor has an editor that's been involved, takes a point of view, and often has great insight. Not every edition, mind you, but often enough to stay interesting… An ad a week to pay for

ARTICLE EIGHT STATE STANARD AND THE FARING OF GEOGRAPHY
A Critique of State-Standard Setting By SARAH WITHAM BEDNARZ
pdf

State Standard-Setting Efforts In 1994 when Geography for Life: The National Geography Standards The commitment to standards-based reform is very strong in every state except Iowa. In the past year 39 states have either prepared new or revised existing academic standards. Forty six states are developing or already have in place assessments and other accountability systems to measure achievement on their standards. The Education Commission of the States has prepared a document on standards and education subtitled A Roadmap for State Policymakers . National organizations like the American Federation of Teachers and the Thomas B. Fordham Foundation issue yearly reports evaluating the quality of these state standards. How has geography fared in the development of state standards? To what degree has Geography for Life influenced state standards? Is geography better off today than it was before the standards were issued? These questions are the focus of this article.
