One of my Graduate Professors told me that, "Copying the works of a single author is considered plagerism , but copying the works of several authors is considered research Well, the ongoing results of my "research" is contained within the next several pages. This work would not have been possible had it not been for the efforts of some of the geneological researchers before me including: A. E. WOLTZ of Raleigh, North Carolina
John D. LONG of Washington, D.C.
Flora Lee (Duncan) WOLTZ of San Francisco, California
Carl L. RICHMOND of Tipton, Indiana

Worcester County itself was born on December 10, 1742, when the eastern section of Somerset was incorporated into a new county. The map at right shows these original boundaries. Up until 1760, the colonies of Maryland and Delaware also both claimed the area of southern Worcester County. Finally in 1867, Wicomico County was created from parts of Somerset and Worcester. This database is a collection of pension and bounty land claims on the state for military service in the war. Most records provide the soldier's name, birth date, rank, spouse, marriage date, and location of marriage. Many entries also contain unit information, location of service, number of acres awarded, and issue date. It contains over 3,000 pension and bounty applications along with nearly 1,000 marriages of Maryland soldiers and a list of 1,200 proved services of soldiers and patriots from other states. For genealogy researchers of Maryland ancestors who served in the Revolutionary War, this can be a useful database.

The Hughes Family Tree
Updated April 27, 2005
This home page is devoted primarily to the HUGHES family, which according to the research I have done so far, originated in either England or Wales, and immigrated to Canada about 1859.
HUGHES - My patriarch is Thomas HUGHES, whom I believe was born in or around the town of Redditch, Worchester County, England, in April, 1795. Thomas' son, Nathaniel, and his pregnant wife, Eliza BANNING, with their 2 children, George Thomas and Mary Ann, left England and arrived at either Port Stanley, Ontario, or Montreal, Quebec, Canada, about 1859. The mother, Eliza, died either during or shortly after childbirth, leaving the young children to be raised by Nathaniel. They eventually settled near the small rural agricultural town of Appin, (Ekfrid Township), Middlesex County, Ontario, Canada, where many of the descendants of the family are still located today. I am the great great great grandson of Thomas and the great grandson of John Albert HUGHES, the baby that was born upon arrival in Canada.
DONALDSON. Another line that I am actively pursuing at this time is the DONALDSON family that settled in Washington County, Pennsylvania, in or around the town of Allenport. The DONALDSON family has a very strong connection to the HUGHES family, which is not fully understood at this time. The patriarch, as I currenly know him to be, is John DONALDSON, who was born in Perthshire, Scotland, in 1800. He arrived with his brother, John, and two sisters, in Canada about 1824. He and his brother migrated to Pennsylvania, and became U.S. citizens, while the two sisters married and stayed in Canada, settling in the Ontario area. John married a local girl, Mary Ann, whose last name I do not know as yet. My work has led me to my only known contact to the DONALDSON family and that is Mike DONALDSON, who lives in Allenport, Pennsylvania. He and I have been corroborating our information in order to find the real story of the DONALDSON family.

Welcome to Our Home
We are the Randt family, Richard, Susan and Justine
of Ellicott City, MD
This page last updated 14 August 2003. The three of us go by Dick, Sue, and Justine. The three of us are into a number of leisure time activities for which we employ the family computer and, of course, the Internet. Dick and Sue are avid amateur genealogists, researching all four corners of their combined family history. Dick's roots are Polish and French Canadian. Sue's family heritage goes back to Ireland and Italy. So Justine winds up as a walking United Nations! Surnames being researched include: We've been hard at work seeking a special person in Sue's family. It goes a bit beyond genealogy for fun. If you'd like to help, check out our page, Seeking Diane Warr One of the toughest names we're researching, yet extremely interesting in their history, is POLLEY. We're so deep into the POLLEY name that we published a quarterly newsletter for about five years for researchers of the POLLEY surname and all its variant spellings: POLLY, POLLEYS, PAULEY, PAULY, PAWLEY, POLEY, POOLEY, etc. However, we've had to give it up for lack of time. Visit the Polley Page and see how we fit into the Polley family.
