How It Works The M.D./M.B.A. in Health Management program is completed in four years. Management and health policy courses are limited to one per term during the medical school year. Two-thirds of the M.B.A. coursework is done in the summers before the student's first and second years in medical school. The first summer's eight courses focus on foundations of management: statistical and economic analyses, financial and managerial accounting, operations management, professional speaking, and organizational behavior. All but one course are given on the Brandeis campus. During the first medical school year, students take courses in ethics and health care systems and the legal environment of health. The second summer, spending most of their time at Northeastern, students take marketing, health care finance, small business management, negotiation, financial management, biotechnology management, and a field experience "shadowing" a health management professional. Health care policy and health care information systems are the courses scheduled for the second medical school year; corporate strategy and health care management are the focus of third- and fourth-year courses.

The Masters level finance courses can be taken as individual electives or combined into finance concentrations, one of which is the cross-functional Financial Engineering concentration.
