52. Maryland Family Investment Program (Welfare)
Overview of all benefits provided in maryland to lowincome families with children.
http://www.peoples-law.org/income/gov-ben/family_investment_program.htm
Last page edit Family Investment Program (FIP) (Maryland) The federal Welfare Reform Act abolished the Aid to Families with Dependent Children program (AFDC). Maryland named its program under the new law the "Family Investment Act." Like the AFDC program, the Family Investment Program, called "FIP", is intended to provide assistance and benefits to low-income families with children. The old Maryland AFDC program was the same statewide. The FIP program, however, varies from county to county. Each county, and Baltimore City, has the option of operating the program differently. Therefore, there is no way to give one description that accurately describes the FIP program in every county. Broadly, the FIP program provides for the Department of Social Services to provide cash assistance, work experience, and other services to low-income families with children that qualify for welfare benefits. How it works:
  • Who is eligible? Families that include a minor child who lives with a parent or caretaker relative or a pregnant woman. They must live in Maryland and the applicant must have applied for child support at the local child support enforcement office. The applicant must be engaged in a job search or in work activity unless certain conditions are met.

Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program and Preschool Special Education Services Welcome to the Maryland Infants and Toddlers Program and Preschool Services Web Site. On behalf of the Division of Special Education/Early Intervention Services in the Maryland State Department of Education , we invite parents, service providers, administrators, advocates, and the community at large to join us in sharing information and resources that support young children with special needs and their families. To make a difference for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with disabilities, early intervention and preschool special education must be built on respect for families and their primary role in the growth and development of children. Our mission and focus is to ensure that every child has a place in the community and the best possible chance to succeed. A child's early years are full of excitement and change for every parent—a great balancing act between dreams and challenges. For families of young children with special needs, the challenges may seem overwhelming at times. Concerns about a child's development, or how a disability may affect his or her ability to grow and learn may overshadow a family's dreams for the future.

About Us The Maryland Family Policy Impact Seminar is a series of seminars, forums, briefing reports and follow-up activities to inform the decision making of state policy makers. The seminar promotes a family perspective in policy development, enactment, and implementation by connecting research to policymaking. Given the growing realization that one effective way to help individuals is by strengthening their families, the Family Policy Impact Seminar analyzes the effects of policies and programs on families. Rather than lobbying for a particular policy option, the Seminar provides policymakers with a neutral, nonpartisan forum for fostering dialogue and seeking common ground. Activities of the Seminar include seminars, forums, briefing reports, roundtable discussions, and follow-up activities around specific issues that impact family well-being. The Maryland Family Policy Impact Seminar is directed by the Department of Family Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park, and is part of a national network of state Family Impact Seminars.
