If you're a librarian , you can access the Education Resource Organizations Directory to help patrons find resource organizations on a whole host of education-related topics. You can search on "library agency" to find out which libraries have ERIC collections. To find ERIC collections in your area, try searching "library agency" and "your state" as a simple search. If you're a researcher , you can use the Education Resource Organizations Directory to find out information about Regional Education Laboratories, national research centers, professional research organizations, etc... For example, try searching "educational research" as a simple search or use the advanced search option and key in "researchers" in the audience field. Welcome to the Drug Awareness Program's online resource center. Since its inception in 1983, the Elks Drug Awareness Program has worked to prevent drug use by our youth through education. The Elks recognize that they are not experts in the field of drug education. However, we do have the resources in dollars, facilities and volunteers to work with the experts to ensure that young people know the facts about drugs. In addition to sponsoring seminars, workshops and drug-free functions, we print and distribute literature developed by authorities on drug awareness. Since 1983, we've printed and handed out more than 125 million pieces of literature to students, their teachers and their parents. We hope that through this resource center, we can reach even more people. You have our permission to print and distribute this material.

Special Educational Needs and the Foreign Service Child
There are unique challenges inherent in raising children with special needs, and this is especially so in the internationally mobile lifestyle of the Foreign Service. There has been a significant effort to increase the number of programs for children with special needs in American-international schools around the world. However, the quality of these programs varies greatly from school to school, and even from year to year. While more children who have mild learning disabilities are adequately served in international schools, children with moderate to severe disabilities still encounter major challenges. In addition to the lack of available programs overseas, very often there is also a lack of other support or therapeutic specialists to serve the requirements of special needs children. The Family Liaison Office strongly urges families to carefully research their options before bidding on and accepting an overseas assignment. There are several offices in the Department of State that work together to assist families of children with special needs. Special Needs Resource Information from the Department of State . Parent Involvement in Education
Kathleen Cotton and Karen Reed Wikelund INTRODUCTION It is no wonder that parent involvement with the schools has become a major educational issue in the 1980s. This is an era of increasing concern about the quality of education in this country. States are taking a greater role in monitoring and maintaining academic standards. Communities are ever more watchful of the expense of public education. Local schools are concerned about continuing to provide high-quality teaching and other services with dwindling resources. And parents want assurance that their children will receive adequate preparation to lead rewarding adult lives. Is parent involvement a valuable, if largely untapped, resource for schools struggling to provide state-ofthe -art instruction with diminishing fundsa way to instill pride and interest in schooling, increase student achievement, and enhance a sense of community and commitment? Or is it one more responsibility to add to overburdened teachers and administratorsor even a threat to the autonomy and professionalism of the schools? This review of the literature on parent involvement examines these issues, focusing, in particular on the following five areas:
