TITLE 13B MARYLAND HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION Subtitle 02 ACADEMIC REGULATIONS Subtitle 06 GENERAL EDUCATION AND TRANSFER Authority: Education Article, 11-201-206 Annotated Code of Maryland
Students transferring from one Maryland public college to another will have built-in guarantees for their general education course work beginning Fall 1996. This new policy is designed to ensure that all of Maryland's two- and four-year public colleges and universities will have General Education Programs that comply with the format listed below. A course completed as part of a General Education Program at any of these institutions will be accepted at any other public institution, without question, for general education. These standards will allow courses defined as general education by the sending institutions to transfer as general education even when the receiving institution does not teach that specific course or have that course designated as general education. Students who do not complete the General Education Program before transferring will receive credit for that part of the Program which was fulfilled at the sending institution(s). An intention of the new General Education statewide policy is to ensure that students are not required to duplicate course work unnecessarily. All courses taken in fulfillment of general education requirements will be designated as such by the sending college on or with the students' transcripts in order to facilitate evaluation at the transfer institution.
