Uses
The Micro ROV for Scientific Studies Proven in the study of Sharks of the Great White North, Whale Sharks, Atlantic Cod, and coral reefs, the VideoRay is a practical tool for scientists and biologists doing aquatic research. It can to go deep into frigid waters to places divers cannot or would prefer not to go. As shark filmer Larry Banbrick of the Discovery Channel Canada says, "When you're working in a hostile underwater environment like the high north, having the VideoRay act as a second pair of eyes is invaluable." For short or long term monitoring of most aquatic systems, the VideoRay is easy to control, small, non-invasive, and does not produce bubbles that scare fish. It is portable and requires a minimal power supply and no special mobilization. Video is produced in NTSC or PAL formats, and special high-resolution and wide-angle lense cameras are available.

As evidenced by archeological documents, the ancient city of Kish, the wall of the ancient city of Gorgan, Takht-e Suleiman and part of the Portuguese Castle are submerged in Iran's coastal waters. Although Iran's underwater archeological activities are over half a century old, this topic is yet to be treated in a suitable manner.
Two centuries have passed and archeology has yet to achieve its rightful position in Iran. This science needs full revision, as Iran has special importance in human civilization and its role in establishing other cultures inspired by its civilization is undisputed. For this reason, Iran Cultural Heritage Organization (ICHO) is not able to take charge of many historical grounds. Dissemination of information is so poor that many in our society still consider archaeologists as treasure hunters! On the other hand, Iranian archaeologists are deprived of the most elementary facilities, with credits being allocated to field activities being grossly disproportionate with the vast expanse of historical sites.
Information obtained during 23 years of explorations has not yet been published and it seems they are going to become as ancient as the archeological relics themselves! Also, the wide gap between academic archeological centers and the executive bodies has damaged educational fundaments and prevented archeology from being divided into specialist subgroups. Therefore, after five decades of underwater archeological activities, Iran Cultural Heritage Organization has only recently decided to form such subgroups. These so called "subgroups" often have so few members that it brings into doubt whether they could be called a group at all. But all problems aside, the following is the result of a research on underwater archeology in Iran.

Career opportunities in underwater archeology are steadily increasing. Hellenic Institute of marine Archaeology Historical Diving Society
http://www.acuaonline.org/education.html
The ACUA is often called upon to provide information on educational opportunities and on organizations specific to underwater archaeology. There are more than 15 universities world wide that now offer degrees in underwater archaeology and their numbers are growing. The number of international organizations that focus on or support the study, management, and conservation of underwater cultural heritage is also rapidly increasing. Although they take many forms, all are committed to increasing public awareness of these important reminders of our shared past. The links on this page were selected to help you quickly find the information you need. Education
Career opportunities in underwater archeology are steadily increasing. One reason is that our awareness of the cultural heritage value of these resources is increasing worldwide. Another is that underwater archaeologists are able to make unique contributions to our understanding of the past. Most jobs with career-advancement potential require a master’s degree, although some are available for those with a bachelor’s degree.

Have a look at the prehistoric underwater cave paintings of the Cosquer cave, with their surprising representations of the giant penguins, which inhabited the Mediterranean from the Straits of Gibraltar to southern Italy (in French only). E gypt : teams from the CNRS based at the Centre d'Etudes Alexandrines are studying the rich history of Alexandria, using both land and underwater excavations, archives, ancient maps and texts. Since 1994, submarine excavations have explored the sunken ruins at the foot of the Qaitbay Fort and wrecks of Greek and Roman ships in Alexandria Harbour. Fragments of colossal statues of three royal couples have been found along with a monumental door (site also in French). T urkey : discover the excitement of Nautical Archeology with this unique web site the Shipwrecks of Anatolia in Bodrum, Turkey. It will take you back in time to a 2,600 year-old shipwreck. Experience first hand what it means to be an underwater archeologist. See how an underwater archeology survey is conducted; experience the joys and frustrations of this discipline. Turkey's unique and spectacular underwater archeology is easily accessible to everyone through this multi-media database of the underwater sites around Anatolia. D ive and Discover : here is an interactive distance learning Web site designed to immerse you in the excitement of discovery and exploration of the deep seafloor. Dive and Discover brings you right on board a series of research cruises and gives you access to the latest oceanographic and deep submergence research as it happens. Be at the front line of scientific inquiry and join marine scientists - geologists, geophysicists, chemists and biologist - who are exploring the seafloor and making amazing discoveries. Daily updates, photos, videos, and e-mail correspondence with scientists aboard research vessels allow you to follow the progress of the scientific missions.

Geology
Scuba Diving is an invaluable tool for geologic research. Underwater geology includes two features – characterization (mapping and testing parts of the underwater environment) and experimentation (analysis of geologic processes).
Scientific divers enrich their knowledge of the shelf’s origin, the tectonics of ocean bottom, the structure and processes in the formation of sediments and minerals below the surface. They use underwater drills to extract limestone and clay particles to learn about the processes that had taken place long ago. Raw minerals are found in deposits which have accumulated for over hundreds of million of years. Over the continental shelf (the most accessible part of the ocean) are located many resources of metals and minerals which are unevenly distributed. Extracting of these minerals is very important because they have become an integral part in the world of modern technology. Petroleum production on land is never sufficient and geologists have turned to the seabed to satisfy the world demand. Underwater Archaeology
Searching for lost sunken cities and ports is also a very popular branch of the underwater archaeology. This search is conducted in various parts of the world, especially in the Mediterranean Sea where the ancient Greeks had developed their civilization. One place which was long searched for but still not found is the Atlantis. The Atlantis was an island whose nation was believed to be a utopian commonwealth – a flourishing and prosperous civilization. An earthquake caused the island to sink in the ocean with all of its treasures. There are many theories about its location but obviously none is true. Perhaps, the Atlantis is simply a dream but who knows? Perhaps one day some of you might find it …

By pure coincidence, we learned that Robert Grenier, a renowned underwater archeologist with Parks Canada, was on hand. Fascinated by his writings about deep-sea diving expeditions in search of historical shipwrecks, we plunged into the fascinating world of underwater exploration. The problem Our discussions with Robert Grenier enabled us to pinpoint a problem in underwater archeology that requires some attention. Although seemingly banal at first, the problem poses a real challenge to divers studying shipwrecks: finding a way to shed sufficient daylight in the muddy waters to enable divers at the archeological site to work comfortably. Divers are often obliged to work in partial or total darkness, relying exclusively on their sense of touch to conduct their searches.
