What is Marine Biology
Marine biology is the study of plants and animal life within the seas ecosystems. The marine biology field covers many aspects including animals, plants and protists of our estuaries, coasts, and oceans, ranging from sharks to bacteria and microscopic algae. Rather then focus on the taxonomy of species, marine biology’s specie classification is focused on the environment in which covered species are those that spend some or all their time in the water.
Marine biology is a large area of study and also includes many sub fields including:
  • Biochemistry of marine organisms Species and biomes Ecosystems Reef habitats Growth, behaviour and interactions of animals or plants Geothermal ventricals
  • Qualifications in Marine Biology
A degree Marine Biology is usually accomplished through a Bachelor of Science degree with a stream in marine biology, however course titles vary according to institutions.

Editorials from The Biological Bulletin The following editorials introducing the Marine Models Electronic Record (then referred to as the BB-MMER) appeared in The Biological Bulletin in 1993 and 1994. Please note that some of the information contained in them, such as the URL listed and certain of the instructions to authors, is already outdated. Nevertheless, these editorials can provide a useful overview and general introduction to the objectives and development of the MMER. Greenberg, M.J. (1993). An Animal Resources Section and a Marine Models Electronic Record for The Biological Bulletin
With the next issue of The Biological Bulletin (February, 1994; Volume 186, Number 1), we inaugurate a new section of the journal devoted to nonmammalian marine organisms that serve, either altogether or in part, as experimental models in basic biological research. Of special interest will be reports on the collection and husbandry of these model organisms, the preparation of their cells or tissues, and research techniques specifically applicable to them. This new animal resources section should help in promoting the use of marine organisms for the study of fundamental problems in biology and, if that goal is fulfilled, it should also make the road easier for the converts. To those ends, the section will:

A formal graduate degree program, the highly acclaimed MIT/WHOI Joint Program in graduate studies founded in 1968, has an enrollment of 120 to 130. The Postdoctoral Program and the summer programs for undergraduates have offered excellent learning opportunities for four decades. General Gelatinous Zooplankton References Listed here are a variety of scientific papers that relate to the study of gelatinous zooplankton. These papers are published in scientific journals that are not available in public libraries - you will need access to a university library or perhaps certain online sources. Note that references with author names in blue are links to abstracts (summaries) provided by several publishing companies that produce scientific journals. In most cases, the full journal papers are available online by paid subscription (check the home page of each publishing company for details). To search for online literature, use the new Google tool below ( About Google Scholar ). Use any information available - author, topic, title, words that appear in title, etc. If you see a reference below that strikes your fancy, use that information for the search. Make your query as specific as possible to limit the number of search results. If you're lucky, you'll come up with a link to the complete research paper, or at least an abstract. This is a new service so don't expect everything to be online, but with time it should improve.
