Biology is a dynamic and exciting umbrella covering many disciplines such as genetics, biochemistry, zoology, molecular biology, anatomy, marine biology, ecology, and physiology, all of which have in common the study of certain aspects of living organisms. The Department of Biology at Eastern Nazarene College, in the tradition of a liberal arts college, believes you will be best prepared by establishing a solid foundation with a core of critical biology courses, then specializing with electives to meet the requirements of a particular career path. The Marine Biology Concentration is designed to provide Biology Majors with a strong foundation in marine biology and related disciplines. The proposed coursework, research projects, and COOP participation will provide a structured curriculum to CAS students interested in marine biology and ecology and provide recognition for this focus. A number of grants, work programs, loans and scholarships are offered through the University. Dick Smith Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 per academic year are available for incoming freshmen, transfers, and returning students who are enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences. The Presidential Honors Program offers exceptional opportunities for outstanding students and includes an $18,000 four-year scholarship. UNB Saint John is one of only a few university campuses in Canada offering a BSc in marine biology. With professors internationally recognized in the field, its ideal location on the St. John-Kennebecasis River estuarine complex, and its own research vessel, the campus is well equipped to offer this program. The marine biology program is a general synopsis of the discipline with special emphasis on Canadian east coast waters. Marine Biology students at UNB Saint John receive a broad, basic training that will allow them to qualify for a wide range of employment opportunities, both in Canada and abroad. Past graduates are employed in government departments at all levels, with consulting and research companies, in private enterprises, in the aquaculture industry, in universities and in many other areas. Student with good records from UNB or elsewhere may pursue postgraduate research and training in marine biology at either the MSc or PhD level in Saint John as well. Specialization in marine biology is offered mainly in the third and fourth year levels. Interested students are introduced to the program through a first year course (Biol 1202, Introduction to Marine Science) and a marine biology field course (Biol 3173), offered to second year students in early May. Courses of a general nature include all of the fundamental areas of biology. More specialized courses include: Oceanography, Ichthyology and Fisheries Science, Marine Ecology, Biology of Algae, Physiology of Marine Vertebrates, Ecophysiology and Biochemistry of Seaweeds, Biology and Conservation of Marine Mammals, Environmental Biology, and Aquaculture.

Hi Rachelle, You're right, there are a lot of Internet web pages that deal with crustaceans, and it's easy to get bogged down with too much or too little information. I did a little digging around on my own, and came up with a handful of pages that you might find useful for your report. Before I go into the list of pages, however, I want to mention that not all of the groups you listed in your question are crustaceans. Horseshoe crabs, despite their misleading common name, aren't crabs at all. In fact, they belong to a completely different subphylum (Subphylum Chelicerata) in the Phylum Arthropoda, reflecting their relatedness to spiders and scorpions. The other animals in your list barnacles, amphipods, isopods, and crabs are all members of the Subphylum Crustacea. I did find some sites that have good general information on crustaceans, and most of them have additional links to the groups in which you are interested. The University of Tennessee at Martin is affiliated with the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL), Ocean Springs, Mississippi, for the purpose of training in the marine sciences. The GCRL is administered by the University of Southern Mississippi. Job Description:
A Biologist 1 (Aquatic) would, under supervision, conduct fish population and fish habitat investigations; summarize and statistically analyze data; prepare technical reports and fisheries management plans and assist in the improvement of publicly valued fishery resources. The Biologist would communicate with various publics concerning fisheries management goals and objectives; review and analyze project proposals which are likely to alter fish habitat; and acquire public access for use and enjoyment of New York fishery resources. A Biologist 1 (Ecology) would, under supervision, conduct and coordinate impact analysis reviews and recommend mitigative action. The Biologist would identify potential resource impacts; compile resource information pertaining to resource impact of various projects, including field investigations; identify mitigative actions and evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation; and prepare for and participate in public hearings. University of Cape Town MARINE BIOLOGY The University of Cape Town has a long and proud tradition as a centre for marine research and for the training of marine scienctists. Over 100 marine scientists work in the Departments of Botany , Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental and Geographical Science , Geological Sciences, Oceanography , Surveying and Zoology, many of them full-time researchers sponsored by outside funding organisations. Oceanography is the general term applied to the scientific study of the sea. Marine biology is the study of animal and plant life within waterbound ecosystems . Given that in biology many phyla families and genera have some species that live in the sea and others that live on land, marine biology deals with those species in which life is spent only (or mainly) in the water, thus its classification is based on the environment rather than on taxonomy

Overview
Marine biology covers a great deal, from the microscopic plankton , including femtoplankton as small as 0.02 micrometers, and together with phytoplankton , hugely important as the primary producers of the sea, to the huge cetaceans (or whales) which reach up to a reported 33 meters (109 feet) in length. The habitats included by investigation in marine biology include everything from the tiny layers of surface water in which organisms and abiotic items may be trapped in surface tension between the ocean and atmosphere, to the depths of the abyssal trenches, sometimes 10,000 meters or more beneath the surface of the ocean. Along the way, habitats such as coral reefs kelp forests tidepools , muddy, sandy, and rocky bottoms, and the open ocean (pelagic) zone, where solid objects are rare and the surface of the water is the only visible boundary.
