Birding Destinations in Manitoba
The field trips scheduled for the June 1998 ABA Regional Conference in Winnipeg will sample a wide variety of southern Manitoba habitats and should deliver most of the region's avian specialties. But there are many more fine birding areas near Winnipeg ( Map 1 ), some of them prime areas for Manitoba's most interesting species. If you have time before or after the conference, day trips to any or all of the next four areas are certain to help round out your trip list. LYLETON AREA Nestled in the extreme southwest corner of Manitoba, this region boasts some of the last remaining mixed-grass prairie in the province as well as shelterbelt-bounded cropland and pasture. A few wooded river-courses traverse the flat to gently rolling terrain. The Lyleton area is a little over four hours drive from Winnipeg (but you should allow much longer if you plan to bird en route). It can be reached by following Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) west to Brandon, Highway 10 south to Highway 2, Highway 2 west to Pipestone, and Highway 83 south to Melita. Alternatively, take Highway 2 west from Winnipeg to Highway 18, Highway 18 south to Killarney, Highway 3 west to Deloraine, and finally Highway 21 south and Provincial Road (P.R.) 251 west to Lyleton. An added attraction of the latter route is the possibility of finding

Answer Yes or No to the following questions. Keep track of your answers.
  • On the first day of classes you are happy to discover the assigned essay is on a topic you wrote a paper on last term. You print off a new copy and hand it in on the due date with a new cover page. This is OK because it is your own work. You are placed in groups to work on a large project. The first time your group meets, you discuss the assignment and you each take a piece of the project to complete. After the compiled project is submitted, you are surprised to learn your group is asked to speak to the instructor about potential plagiarism in one of the sections. Can you be charged with plagiarism even if your section is properly referenced? You are permitted to leave the exam room to go to the washroom. Your cell phone rings and you answer it. When you go to hand in your completed exam, the invigilator asks you to wait until the remaining students leave to speak to you. Could you be charged with cheating?
