About Malaysia
The Geography
Malaysia is geographically located at the South East Asia.
Its two parts are separated by more than 650 km of the South China Sea:
  • West Malaysia - it is the Peninsular.
  • East Malaysia - is made up of the states of Sabah and Sarawak and the federal territory of Labuan, occupies the northern portion of the island of Borneo.
Peninsular Malaysia is dominated by a mountainous core consisting of several parallel north-south ranges. The highest, the Main Range, has peaks over 2,100 m (7,000 ft). Coastal plains are found between the mountains and the sea in the west and east.
Sarawak consists largely of coastal plain. In Sabah the narrow coastal plain gradually gives way to a mountainous region that divides Malaysia from Indonesia.

It is divided into two geographical sections: Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia (provinces of Sabah and Sarawak in North Borneo). The two parts of the country are lying about 650 km (404 mi) apart, separated by the South China Sea. Peninsular Malaysia neighbors Thailand and Singapore. Sabah and Sarawak border Kalimantan (the Indonesian part of Borneo) and Sarawak surrounds a tiny enclave of Brunei. The Andaman Sea is to the west of the Malaysian Peninsula. The East Coast of the peninsula, Sabah and Sarawak are all washed by the South China Sea. Malaysia measures a total of 330,200 sq. km (127,500 sq mi).
Peninsular Malaysia represents 40% of the country's area. A mountainous spine known as the Main Range or Banjaran Titiwangsa runs from the Thai border southwards along the backbone of the peninsula. It effectively separates a narrow eastern coastline from a wide, fertile plain of the west coast. Numerous rivers of the Peninsula are a result of the local topography and heavy tropical rainfall. Being the main trade and transport arteries of the past, now this network of white-water rivers is perfect for rafting. The Sungai Pahang River is the longest on the Peninsula (475 km; 295 mi), followed by the Sungai Perak (400 km; 248 mi).

Norway extends so far to the north that distances can be long. The drive from Lindesnes in the south to the North Cape covers about 2500 km. However, these great distances allow the visitor to experience dramatic variations in the landscape. The road network is well developed and the majority of the roads have a reasonably good standard. Bridges over deep fjords and tunnels under towering mountains shorten the journey, and as you emerge from a tunnel you can admire the stunning and unexpected views of the ever-changing landscape. Norway is one of the few countries in the world with fjords – deep indentations in the coastline formed by the scouring action of glaciers millions of years ago. The train is a reliable and exciting way to experience Norway, and from the comfort of a modern carriage you can watch the beautiful countryside unfold. Malaysia is located in Southeast Asia and covers an area of 329,750 sq km. It is the only country that occupies territory on both the mainland and insular regions of Southeast Asia. The region of Malaysia on the mainland is commonly referred to as either Peninsular Malaysia or West Malaysia. It occupies the southern half of the Malay Peninsula and accounts for 40% of the country's land mass. It is bordered by Thailand on the north and Singapore on the south, the Strait of Malacca on the west and the South China Sea on the east. The insular region is commonly referred to as East Malaysia. It occupies the northwestern part of the island of Borneo. (Kalimantan (Indonesian) Borneo occupies the southeast portion of Borneo.) Approximately 400 miles (650 km) of the South China Sea separates East Malaysia from Peninsular Malaysia. Peninsular Malaysia is largely mountainous with half of the total area more than 500 feet (150 meters) above sea level. There are several mountain ranges that run north-south with elevations rising to more than 7,000 feet (2,000 m). Heavily populated coastal lowlands (fertile plain) run along the west side and narrow, swampy, and densely forested lowlands run along the east side. The Pahang River is the principal river flowing through Peninsular Malaysia

    Geography Of Malaysia
Malaysia is situated in Southeast Asia and is both a peninsular and an island nation. The central part of the country is located on a long, thin peninsula, bordering Thailand; this part of the country contains the capital, Kuala Lumpur, and the main industrial and agricultural enterprises. At the tip of the country, across the straits, is the island city-state of Singapore. The second part of the country, often referred to as East Malaysia, is across the South China Sea on the island of Borneo, an island which Malaysia shares with Indonesia, and Brunei. East Malaysia comprises the areas known as Sabah and Sarawak, which form 60 percent of the total area of the country. Peninsular Malaysia is bordered in the North by Thailand and is separated from Indonesia in the East by the Strait of Malacca. This strait is one of the busiest shipping areas in the world and historically was the gateway to the "spice islands;" thus it has long been the home of pirates as well. As is true of much of Southeast Asia, Malaysia enjoys a tropical climate with both Southwest and Northeast monsoons, which keep the country wet for much of the year from April to February. These rains help to account for the excellent agriculture and forestry which make up a large part of the country's economy. The island part of the country has coastal plains with high interior mountains, the highest point being Gunung Kinabalu at 13, 450 feet.

Antarctica is the fifth-largest continent following Asia, Africa, North America, and South America, but larger than Australia and the subcontinent of Europe. It has a total area of 14 million sq km and is one and a half times larger than the size of United States, twice the size of Australia and 42 times larger than Malaysia's land and water combined. It has the highest average elevation continent on Earth at 2,160 meter (7,100 feet), maki ng it about 1,000 meter higher than the global average land height. The South Pole itself resides on the high Polar Plateau - 2,835 meters above sea level. Antartica is the most isolated place in the world and was recently found in early 19th century. It rotates around the South Pole, the most southernly point on the Earth's rotational axis . About 98% of the continent is covered in continental ice sheet while 2% is barren rocks and mountain parts that jut up in the glacier or the ice, better known by the Inuit people as nunataks. The average thickness of the ice sheet on Antarctica is 2.3km (1.5 miles). The thickest ice sheet can be found at Wilkes Land - where it reaches a depth of 4,776 meters (15,669 feet). Where is Antarctica from Malaysia?
