If you are interested in having a 9-1-1 dispatcher make a presentation at your school, contact the Bureau by email to info911@state.me.us , or by phone, 1-888-448-3803, at least 2 weeks in advance. Make sure you tell us the name of the school, its location, contact information and the date requested (if known). The Bureau will try to match you up with a 9-1-1 educator from your area.
Letter to Parents
You may find the following letter helpful to let parents know that 9-1-1 was taught in your classroom. Many parents are still unaware of the availability of 9-1-1 service in Maine or about its proper use. It also refers them to this web site for more information.

The Department of Human Services, in consultation with a Newborn Hearing Screening Advisory Board that includes an audiologist, a speech-language pathologist, parents, and persons who are culturally deaf or hard of hearing, to develop guidelines for screening and follow-up care that include diagnostic audiologic assessment, counseling, and parent education. Data reports to this advisory board required beginning January 1, 2003. We provide a listing of area family daycare centers and recent participants in the Caring for Kids babysitting trainings. The office has a parenting lending library of activity books, videotapes and magazines for parents. Materials are loaned for a two-week period. Programs are offered periodically to groups on specific parenting topics such as effective discipline, communication and building healthy relationships. For additional parenting resources, check out the UMCE Parent Center at http://www.umext.maine.edu/parentcenter/ Nutrition and Food Safety: Informational sessions and public programs on food topics are presented to many audiences. The most common topics are the Food Guide Pyramid; Eating the Right Weigh; Reading the New Food Label; Reducing Fat in the Diet; Healthy Snacks for Children; Altering Recipes; and Making Homemade Master Mixes. We offer many publications that address food and nutrition issues. Questions on canning, freezing, and drying of foods can be answered by calling our office. Food preservation publications describe step-by-step methods for preserving. We recommend testing your dial pressure gauges for their accuracy annually. This service is FREE.
