HISTORIC CITY TOUR TOUR DESCRIPTION
Celebrate Salt Lake City on a tour that includes some of the city's most famous sites and buildings. Begin at the Capitol, the city's crowning jewel. The view from the front steps is magnificent. Murals lining the Georgian marble rotunda walls tell the story of the settling of the Old West. See the Beehive House, Brigham Young's beautifully restored home. While living in the home, Young was Territorial Governor and President of the Mormon Church.
The tour includes a drive past the elegant mansions on South Temple. Many of these homes were built with wealth derived from the Park City mining boom of the late 1800's. One of these homes is the Governor's Mansion, which is the largest in the United States.
See the University of Utah's Rice/Eccles Stadium, site of the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, and Old Fort Douglas, site of the 2002 Olympic Athlete's Village. Visit Pioneer Trail State Park and This-Is-The-Place Monument at the mouth of Emigration Canyon. This monument stands as a tribute to the men, women and children who were instrumental in settling this area. En route back to downtown, guests will view Trolley Square, a unique shopping center built in trolley barns from the early 1900's.

Sponsored by Intel. For years, telecom companies have attempted to tap into the passions that surround sporting events. With the Winter Olympics in full swing, these marketing efforts materialize in team sponsorships. But to make the most of such deals, telcos need to do more than place their logos next to a famous face. Now comes the Winter Olympics and with it thousands of prime marketing opportunities. If telecom companies want to make the most of the occasion, though, they have to do more than simply slap a logo in a television camera's line of sight or say they support a particular team. Instead, one of the best ways to leverage these opportunities is through sponsoring related events.

Search Domination of the Ice-Pipe The German lugers, bobbers and skeleton racers almost exclusively reserve the right to win When it comes to German lugers, bobbers and skeleton racers, Germany boasts the highest number of top athletes. On the subject of lugers, more than 200 are organised into squads both on a regional and national level. That aside, the Germans have the best materials, the highest number of training centres and also the most runs, namely in Oberhof, Altenberg, Berchtesgaden, Winterberg and Oberwiesenthal. So it is not surprising that Germany has been producing the best athletes in these Alpine sports for years. Germans have for years dominated the luge and bobsleigh, and – for some not inconsiderable time – skeleton, too. However, Josef Fendt, President of FIL, the International Luge Federation, believes in the meantime that the Germans’ success cuts both ways. Fendt, a resident of Berchtesgaden, says, "This success attracts sponsors and airtime on TV. On the other hand I don’t only want to see the German flag always being hoisted at presentation ceremonies. As FIL President, I also wish to see another nation’s colours from time to time." Georg Hackl, the luger from Berchtesgaden who is now well known far beyond the realms of his sport, once said, "When you look at the development of other nations, it’s enough to make you worried that they won’t compete anymore out of sheer frustration."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
June 7, 2001 GOVERNOR PATAKI: LAKE PLACID TO HOST FOUR WORLD CUP EVENTS Empire State Continues to Enhance its Role as International Center for Winter Sports
Governor George E. Pataki today announced that Lake Placid will host four World Cup tour events this coming winter season bobsled, luge, skeleton and freestyle skiing. These events represent half of all of the World Cup tours taking place in the United States in 2001-02. In addition to the World Cup events, Lake Placid will also host U.S. and international Olympic team training in the weeks prior to the 2002 Winter Olympics. "All New Yorkers can take pride in the fact that Lake Placid continues to attract the finest athletes from around the world," Governor Pataki said. "As a result of the major investments we've made in our ORDA facilities over the past few years, the Lake Placid community continues to enhance its reputation as one of the world's great winter sports venues. "With four more pre-Olympic World Cup events headed here this winter, it's clear that Lake Placid's legendary reputation will only continue to grow stronger in the days ahead."

Introduction
Many Winter Olympic sports are greatly dependent on technique, engineering, and/or gravity. For example, during luge, while gravity is accelerating the sled up to 80 mph down the track, the slider must use good technique to steer the sled and minimize air resistance. To excel in these type of sports, it is helpful to have a full appreciation of physics and biomechanics. Physics is a broad field which includes mechanics, electricity, magnetism, optics, etc., and biomechanics is the study of the mechanics of living systems. In the module we will use the sports of luge and figure skating to teach you four basic mechanical concepts: linear kinematics, linear dynamics, projectile motion, and conservation of angular momentum. In addition, we have developed a glossary which defines and illustrates all the physics terminology you will need to complete this module.

To your right is a long, thin line of Americans; to your left is another long, thin line of Americans. They are all leaning over a metal railing with their heads twisted in the uphill direction, the angled, glistening surface of the track stretched out in front of them like the wall of an ice cave, nearly close enough to touch. And then Georg Hackl goes by. He doesn't stay long, considering that he is traveling on his back at more than 100 kilometers (60 miles) per hour. "Whoooooo!" comes the collective surprise, as all heads, including your own, twist nearly as quickly in the downhill direction.

Although he is yet to receive a formal missive from the Indian Olympic Association, Keshavan has qualified for the 20th edition of winter Olympics on the basis of his performance in various luge events held this year. “The international qualifying standard for luge in the Olympic games requires a minimum of five World Cup points and qualification in at least five tournaments. I satisfy these criteria having qualified in every World Cup I attempted this season and garnering nine points so far.” “The International Luge Federation has also contacted me regarding my qualification,” he added.
