Alpha Beta Alpha(ABA)
The Alpha Theta chapter of Alpha Beta Alpha (ABA)was chartered in 1966. It is a national professional fraternity for library science majors and minors, and for others who are interested in books and people.
Our chapter meets once a month for both fellowship and to conduct chapter business. ABA has held an annual book fair for the last thirteen years for the students of Louisiana Tech and of A.E. Phillips School. Proceeds from the fair are used to support the library science program, the library at A.E. Phillips, and service projects of the ABA.
Service projects are suggested by the members and vary from year to year. The primary service project will provide story and activity hours for area children in the spring. There will also be an event held to celebrate the Silver Anniversary of our chapter.
The advisor for our group is Dr. Joy L. Lowe in the College of Education. If you would like more information, you can phone her at 257-3430, or e-mail her at joylowe@latech.edu

However, acceptance of transfer credit is always at the discretion of a receiving institution. If a student's intent is to transfer to another institution, they are advised to check with the receiving institution regarding acceptance of credit prior to enrolling in the courses. General Information HISTORY OF McNEESE STATE UNIVERSITY
McNeese State University was founded in 1939 as a division of Louisiana State University offering only the first two years of higher education. Originally called Lake Charles Junior College, the name became John McNeese Junior College in 1940 by resolution of the University Board of Supervisors in honor of a pioneer Southwest Louisiana educator. The institution advanced to four-year status and separated from L.S.U. in 1950 and was renamed McNeese State College; and its administration was transferred to the Louisiana State Board of Education. Act 138 of the 1970 Louisiana Legislature gave the institution its present name, McNeese State University. McNeese gained significant recognition in 1954 through admission to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the highest accrediting agency in the United States for such schools in the South. McNeese State University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, Georgia; Telephone number 404-679-4501) to award associate, bachelor, master, and specialist degrees.

However, $4.3 million of that is simply a transfer of remediation funds from the Subgrantee Assistance program for testing and distinguished educators. An additional $650,000 are new funds for imaging costs associated with moving to a new building. The end result is nominal growth in funding for the program, below that needed to meet expected growth in expenses. Subgrantee Assistance had several programmatic changes resulting in an additional $7.2 million in overall appropriations. Federal funds were reduced by over $4.8 million primarily to reflect expected expenditures. There was also a $2.1 million reduction in interagency transfers resulting from the elimination of the JTPA transfer from the Department of Labor. A notable increase to this program was a $10.8 million increase in statutory dedications from the Education Excellence Fund; these funds will pass through to local school districts. The additional state general funds are for Type 2 Charter Schools and the K-3 Reading programs. There were two programs in the Department of Education that received few adjustments. The Special School Districts received an additional $3.3 million in general funds for the Justice Department Settlement Agreement. The only change for the Non-Public Assistance program was the addition of $45,000 from the Education Excellence Fund.
