101. Lizard Heaven - General Care Of Chinese Water Dragons
general Care of Chinese Water Dragons, Physignathus Cocincinus.

GENERAL
Chinese Water Dragons, Physignathus cocincinus, can make a wonderful pet! They are colorful, easy to handle, friendly, and don't grow to an unmanageble size. Large males can reach a total length of just over three feet; females are generally smaller. They are found naturally over much of Southeast Asia, including eastern Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, and also in southern parts of China. Water Dragons are often found in riverine forests, where they stay close to water. They are aboreal lizards, are accomplished swimmers, and can run on their back legs!
HOUSING
SUBSTRATE
Water Dragons fare quite well on a mixture of potting soil and coarse sand, or "cage carpet" which is like Astroturf. If you use the cage carpet, make sure the edges are not frayed as this can be ingested and could cause impaction. Bed-A-Beast is another popular bedding of hobbyists and is available at most pet stores. When using any of the soil/Bed-A-Beast substrates, take care to keep their water container free of waste and debris and fresh at all times.
CAGE FURNITURE
Since Water Dragons are aboreal lizards, large branches for climbing and basking are a necessity. They should be

Some of these you would not consider a "pest" until you find them in your kitchen late at night. However, their presence is both unnerving and unacceptable. Given the chance, they will readily move into any structure man builds. And removing them can be tricky. These unwanted creatures are snakes and lizards!

Contact LifeTips If you have questions Ask a Question Now! My Tips and Advice: Lizards Tip: That fragile tail Ever seen a lizard with a piece of its tail missing? There´s a reason why. They break off. Don´t pick up your lizard by the tail. Not only is it painful, but in some species, you can actually break it off. This evolved as a defense mechanism on the lizard´s part, to leave a predator chewing on a piece of the lizard instead of the whole thing. The break will heal, but it´s no fun for the lizard and it never does grow back as nicely colored as before. var PUpage="76001080"; var PUprop="geocities"; General Lizard FAQ Welcome to the lizard FAQ. I have recieved a variety of e-mails asking me all types of questions. So, I've put together a Genral Lizard FAQ that will hopefully cover the most commonly asked lizard questions. Some of these are simple questions and answers, while others are much more complex. If this FAQ, or this website does not answer your question(s) please feel free to POST me a question, or to e-mail me at: lizard_qs@hotmail.com Q.)
Hello. I've been kind of worried about my CHINESE WATER DRAGON. He is only a baby, and I just got him a month ago. But latley, I've been noticing that he's been dragging his left art, and tucks it in under his belly when he walks (or more like limps)
Also, he is turning a dark color, and is very cold. He doesn't go near his heat lamp, and won't chase his crickets. Also, I've noticed that his stools are very smelly, and he does not poop in his water dish. He is housed w/ another (older) dragon. (But they don't seem to play rough at all) Can someone please answer my question. Thanks.

Green Cay National Wildlife Refuge General Information
History
Green Cay was the first National Wildlife Refuge seen by Europeans when Christopher Colombus sighted it in November 1493. As early as 1020 A.D., pre-Columbian Indians used the island for processing marine conch for food. It was estimated that the large shell midden on the island contained approximately 33,000 discarded conch shells. The 14 acre island was established as a National Wildlife Refuge in 1977.
Habitat and Management Green Cay NWR is a small island located off the north coast of St. Croix. It consists of dry, forested areas and small cobble beaches. The island is of volcanic origin where outcrops of lava, tuffs and breccias are common geologic features. The introduced rat caused a serious threat to the survival of the St. Croix ground lizard. Rats often feed on terminal shoots of trees and shrubs throughout the dry season. Over time, the forest will be destroyed along with critical habitat for the lizards. Last year an eradication program was conducted and rats were trapped and removed successfully off the island.
