26. Sonoran Lizards
general information and a look at the natural habitat of Heloderma suspectum presented by BioPark International, Inc.
http://biopark.org/lizards.html
LOTS OF LIZARDS
In the Sonoran Desert, lizards are particularly conspicuous to the casual observer because so many are diurnally active. Most species are carnivorous and the majority are important consumers of insects. A few, like the common collared lizard ( Crotaphytus collaris ) eat other vertebrates, including their own young. Like the desert spiny lizard ( Sceloporus magister ), they are occasionally omnivorous, eating blossoms and buds in the spring. Few are primarily plant eaters like the common chuckwalla ( Sauromalus obesus ) and desert iguana ( Dipsosaurus dorsalis ). In both species, the young are well-known to eat insects while the adults are chiefly or exclusively herbivorous. The well-known Gila monster ( Heloderma suspectum ) is one of two living venomous lizards.
It is a predatory scavenger specializing in the eggs and helpless young of reptiles, birds, and small mammals. Its brief surface sojourns from subterranean retreats occur mainly in April and May, the best seasonal window for activity requiring moderate daytime temperatures and reaping an energy bonanza from the spring bounty of eggs and nestlings.
Gila monsters spend about 98% of their lives underground.

30. The Monitor FAQ--Foreword
general information on keeping monitor lizards.
http://www.kingsnake.com/monitorfaq/
FOREWORD INTRODUCTION PURCHASING HOUSING ... MISCELLANEOUS Foreword Monitor lizards, in my opinion, make for some of the very best reptilian captives. Highly intelligent, active, inquisitive, and beautifully colored these lizards can be a joy to keep. However, they do require large cages, frequent cage and water cleanings, and lots of food. If you are looking for a pet I advise you to look elsewhere, perhaps leopard geckos or bearded dragons would suit your needs better. But, if you are looking for an interesting captive that you can sit back and watch for hours then please read the rest of this FAQ and do as much research on the species your are interested in before purchasing it. I also highly recommend that you visit The Monitor Forum as it is an invaluable learning tool. Before asking questions on the forum please SEARCH THE ARCHIVES as a lot of information has already been discussed and you may not get an answer because of this. Then if you still are unclear or have specific questions go ahead and ask them. Don't take anything personally and look at the information through objective eyes. I would like to thank Adam Britton, the Author of

Introduction:
The veiled chameleon ( Chamaeleo calyptratus ) is the most commonly bred and available species of its genus in herpetoculture. The popularity of the veiled chameleon is due to a number of factors: veiled chameleons are relatively hardy, large, beautiful, and prolific. It is not uncommon to encounter this species in pet shops, even pet shops that do not specialize in reptiles. Unfortunately, veiled chameleons are all too often purchased from reptile shows or pet shops without the correct information on their proper care and management in captivity. As a result, many newly purchased veiled chameleons do not live over one year of age. It is the responsibility of the seller to provide information on captive care, as it is also the responsibility of the purchaser to seek it before the animal is brought home. The captive care of veiled chameleons is somewhat involved (what reptile care isn't?), but well worth the effort. This article is intended as a guide to purchasing, caring for, and breeding veiled chameleons, but is by no means intended to be the only source of information required on this subject.

Curlytailed Lizard general Info Adult length up to 10 Peru curly-tailed lizards are a fun addition to the family due to their active nature.
http://www.giveusahome.co.uk/allpets/lizards/curlytailedlizard.htm
Curly-tailed Lizard General Info: Adult length up to 10" Peru curly-tailed lizards are a fun addition to the family due to their active nature. These small lizards are great as an introduction to reptiles for children. Children should always be supervised by an adult when interacting with any animal. Temperature/Humidity: Ideal daytime temperature for these lizards should range between 75 and 85 degrees. Additionally, a basking lamp should be used to maintain a local temperature of 95 to 100 degrees. Night time temperature should remain between 60 and 70 degrees. The humidity for these lizards should be kept at or near 55 percent. Lighting: All diurnal lizards (mainly active during the day) require ultraviolet lighting to maintain good health. Ultraviolet lighting is recommended for 12 hours per day. A timer is recommended to maintain a stable lighting schedule. Feeding/Watering: Peru curly-tailed lizards are insectivorous (eat mainly insects). Insects should be dusted with a vitamin/calcium powder. Suggested insects are: crickets, mealworms, and waxworms. A shallow water bowl is necessary to keep these lizards in optimum health. Water should be changed daily. Habitat/Housing: Individuals can be maintained in a 15 gallon terrarium. A screen lid is essential for proper air exchange. Peru curly-tailed lizards are best kept singularly. However, for multiple pets, increase habitat size accordingly to ensure each lizard has plenty of space to move about and not interfere with tankmates. An undertank heater should be placed on the same end of the tank as the basking lamp. Multiple climbing branches are necessary as well as a shelter for hiding, especially if multiple pets are in the same enclosure. Misting the habitat occasionally will help maintain proper humidity levels and allow for these lizards to intake water in a manner to which they are accustomed. Substrate
