THE LIVING MUSEUM The living museum is a concept that will apply to all of our museums. It is about experiences of interpretation that engage directly with all our visitors, inspiring people to explore our way of life, past and present. By using live interpretation and encouraging visitors to participate in activities, the living museum will offer opportunities to experience at first hand a sense of how life was in the past. It will also help to explore the stories of science and technology. Costumed interpreters, working buildings and exhibits, the chance to touch, to hear and to do as well as to look, will bring our stories to life. ©2005 MAGNI TEXT ONLY SITE MAP

ADVANCED SEARCH PANZERS AT THE PALACE AS LIVING MUSEUM ROLLS INTO LONDON By 24 Hour Museum Staff Preparations for the Living Museum, which forms part of the commemorative events marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two, are under way in London's St James' Park. Museums across the UK have begun the task of organising displays and shipping in exhibits for the open air museum, which opens on July 4 2005. One of the first to arrive, a German Panzer Mk III from the Tank Museum at Bovington, made an impromptu stop at Buckingham Palace on June 23. The stop served as a photo opportunity to promote the Living Museum and also provided a brief reminder of what might have been had it not been for the bravery and determination of the wartime generation. The Metropolitan Police were also on hand to deter the would-be invader by issuing a parking ticket, but as Nik explained, there was sober reasoning behind the publicity stunt. The Tank Museum is also providing two other British Tanks; a Valentine mark IX, which like the Panzer Mk III had a prominent role during the North African campaign and a Churchill AVRE which played an important part in the success of the British landing on D-Day. For more information on opening times and for booking phone 0207 218 5639 or 0207 807 8935.

At least 28 museums and organisations will take part in the museum, which will occupy 25,000 square metres of the park, allowing visitors the opportunity to learn about the experience of the war generation first hand. Living history and re-enactments will combine with hands on displays to give people a glimpse of wartime life, both military and domestic, from air raids to black outs through to gas mask training and code cracking. More than 200 people including veterans, curators and enthusiastic amateur historians will be on hand to answer questions about life during World War Two. Visitors will also be able to bring in WW2 objects (excluding weapons and ammunition) for experts to identify. The Living Museum will be accompanied by a series of remembrance events both in the capital and throughout the UK. Picture courtesy The Royal British Legion. An Exhibition of World War 2 Art featuring bronzes, silverware and items of historic interest not usually available for public viewing will also be displayed in The Banqueting House in nearby Whitehall.

It's not the original, but only his mummy would know that

By SONYA PADGETT
REVIEW-JOURNAL Shabits, figurines intended to assist in the afterlife, were found throughout King Tut's tomb. Photos by Ralph Fountain Visitors can view a replica of King Tutankhamen's tomb at the Luxor, including a replica of his elaborate outer coffin, seen here. Millions of people have visited the Luxor's Egyptian museum since it opened in 1993. These replicas of artifacts found in King Tut's tomb in Egypt were made with the same materials and tools as the originals, said Gil Perez, spokesman for the Luxor. Fans of Egyptian history can pay $25 admission plus a hundred or two in transportation costs to see the King Tutankhamen Exhibit on display in Los Angeles. Or, they can suspend their disbelief for an afternoon and see a replica of the boy king's tomb at the Luxor for half the price and much less travel. No, it's not the real thing, but it's surprisingly close. The museum, which opened in 1993, consists of four rooms full of replicas that were crafted by artisans using the same tools, techniques and materials used by ancient Egyptians, said Gil Perez, director of rides and attractions at the Luxor.

Rajasthan - A living Museum….
The experience is like travelling through a living museum …… .The Tour is a photographer's paradise offering innumerable opportunities to capture virgin lifestyle images unchanged for centuries. Finally, the distances between destination are very small. This not only cuts out the travel time, but encourages people to have time in hand to explore the country side on the way at their own pace. You would have an opportunity to interact with the locals, visit villages and tribal homes etc. You could do all this and more without worrying about loosing time on journeys. Also, we believe that the sights and experiences that come up on way to a destination are more fascinating and natural compared to the destination itself. Of Course the crowning Glory of the tour is the Taj Mahal - the most photographed monument in the world……A fitting climax to our back street adventures in Rajasthan Day 1 : Arrival / Delhi Late night arrival. Traditional Welcome garlands. Later, transfer to the hotel Connaught.
