UPDATE! Due to keeping a large number of ewe lambs
for the last two years, we are offering our two-year-old ram,
Seminole
, for sale. His genetic background is hard to match!
For more information, please contact us. Special Thanks to Greiner Bros., Iowa, and the Stone Family,
Arkansas, for our purchasing our entire ewe flock. Announcing the newest member of the McGaugh Family! Life at the McGaugh household is a little more hectic since the addition of the newest member of the family, Taylor Elizabeth, on October 6, 2000. Lambing responsibilities fell to Donnie this season. However, since Taylor is a good sleeper, I still received a significant amount of night duty. But, it has definitely all been worth it!
Seminole We purchased Garvie's Top-Selling Hampshire Ram at the 1999 Club Lamb Country Sale. "Seminole" combines the great genetics of Barbara's "Scout" ram and "Warrior" (Brad Dale's Garvie ram). His lambs have that same great "look" that he had as a lamb. A combination of great eye appeal and well-balanced muscling that is hard to come by in today's lamb market. It has worked tremendously well on our "Cheyenne" and "Warrior" ewes. Sheep Equipment for Sale!

The Rare Breeds Survival Trust's work helps to support the Irish Moiled breed and over seventy other rare breeds of British farm livestock. Founded in 1973 the RBST is a registered charity funded entirely on membership subscriptions, donations and legacies. Conserving rare breeds is not a matter for sentiment. They are an essential part of greener farming systems helping the environment and improving the quality of the food we eat.
Between 1900 and 1973 more than 20 unique breeds of British farm animals became extinct - their genetic diversity lost forever. With your help we can ensure that breeds such as the mighty Shire horse, Leicester Longwool sheep, Ixworth poultry, Gloucestershire Old Spots pig or magnificent Longhorn cattle do not suffer the same fate.

    Electronic ID
    Information and Technology
Electronic ID provides the basis for automated data collection on individual animals. Electronic ID is synonymous with Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). RFID eliminates the need for "line of sight" reading necessary with barcode systems. The signal can penetrate through body tissue, wood, plastic, mud, manure and more. RFID in this application is passive and therefore requires no battery, meaning it will last for the life of the animal. Allflex High Performance Electronic Identification Tags incorporate the most highly used radio frequency identification system in the world, the TIRIS system by Texas Instruments. Allflex introduced an aircoil antenna system encapsulated within a modified Allflex Small Female tag. This durable tag helps the transponder withstand environmental conditions.
    Allflex Meets ISO Standards
Allflex proudly adheres to the International Standards Organization (ISO) requirements for electronic identification. There are two basic standards issued by the ISO in regards to RFID, they are: Radio Frequency ID of Animals, Code Structure (ISO Standard 11784)—Specifies the RFID code for use with animals.

    160. A Message To Dog Owners From Livestock Owners
The harm dogs can cause to livestock, responsible dog ownership, and incidents on San Juan Island, Washington.
    http://www.rockisland.com/~castalia/dogs.html
A Message To Dog Owners The most common predatory killers of livestock are domestic dogs. Even your sweet family pet can wander off to play, start chasing, then biting, and then instincts kick in that you might be too naive to believe your dog has. Unfortunately, your naivety and denial won't save the livestock your dog harms . Livestock owners know this and many will shoot your dog and you'll never even know what happened to it. But don't blame the owners of the livestock, they are merely protecting their beloved animals from a killer you chose to leave on the loose. Not only do dogs tear up livestock and cause incredible pain and suffering to them, they can "stress" certain types to death just by "running" them . They can chase them into, through, or over fences where they can become tangled in fencing, or hit by cars. "Running" stock can also cause abortion or early births which result in heartache over the loss of babies and dams due to complications. Some livestock is prone to heat stress, and "running" them can cause death from that too. You can be held financially responsible for the monetary losses your dog inflicts.
