Lithuania challenger: Fly with me
Paksas, left, and Adamkus, second left, with NATO Secretary-General George Robertson. Story Tools
VILNIUS, Lithuania Voters are braving bitter cold for a runoff election that pits Lithuania's popular president against a flamboyant former prime minister and stunt pilot 30 years his junior. Incumbent Valdas Adamkus, 76, is expected to win a second term in the presidential vote, buoyed by his success in guiding the ex-Soviet republic toward entry into NATO and the European Union. But as Lithuanians cast their ballots on Sunday fomer Vilnius mayor and twice-prime minister Ronaldas Paksas, 46, was defying forecasts of an electoral crash-and-burn. "I was flying while mayor of Vilnius and I did so as a prime minister," Paksas told The Associated Press on Sunday. "And I will be a flying president." Sunday's runoff against Paksas was called after Adamkus failed to get an absolute majority in a first round of voting last month.

Air transport started in Lithuania in 1921. From that period military planes carried mail throughout Lithuania. Lithuanian Airlines is pursuing the activities of the airline Lietuvos oro linijos, established in 1938. At that time, Lietuvos oro linijos had two seven - seat Percival Q-6 aircraft which were purchased in England. Both aircraft were flown from England by Dzenkaitis and Mockunas, our first transport pilots. Lietuvos oro linijos operated on the routes from Kaunas to Palanga and Riga. From 1941, when Lithuania was occupied by the Soviet Union, air services were taken over by Aeroflot. In 1991, when Lithuania regained its independence, Lithuanian Airlines was the first to break away from Aeroflot. The company was re-established on September 20, 1991. Lithuanian Airlines was the first airline of the republics of the former Soviet Union to acquire Western manufactured aircraft.

WHO WE ARE FAITH STATEMENT LT EN ... DE
WHO WE ARE
The roots for our churches are in the Free Church movement. The first protestant Free Christian Church in Lithuania was formed out of local believers in aggressive Soviet atheistic context in 1989. It was officially registered in 1991 after the breakdown of the Soviet Union . This congregation is continuing the tradition of free evangelical churches, which reaches the Radical Anabaptist Reformation movement. During these years, new Free Christian Churches were established in other cities of Lithuania - Kaunas , Klaipeda , Panevezys, Silute and Vilnius . At first the leaders of these churches met informally. In the year 2000 they established an informal union, and at the end of the year 2003, they submitted the registration documents to the Ministry of Justice of Lithuania . This membership aids our cooperation and mutual support. The roots of the movement are in the Reformation movement. The return to the high view of Scriptures and the life reflected in them is one of our major aspirations. Kaunas FCC
