UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO - STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK
The long term goal of the SNePS Research Group is to understand the nature of intelligent cognitive processes by developing and experimenting with computational cognitive agents that are able to use and understand natural language, reason, act, and solve problems in a wide variety of domains. The principal research area of the Group is knowledge representation and reasoning (krr) in support of natural-language competent autonomous agents. This includes research in: logics for krr; natural language understanding and generation; cognitive architectures; acting formalisms; belief change; models of time, self, and other agents. The group is widely known for its development of the SNePS knowledge representation/reasoning system, and Cassie, its computerized cognitive agent.

315 Gore Hall The Department of Linguistics at the University of Delaware stands at the forefront of the study of human language as a component of the human mind/brain. The faculty and students in the department bring together two powerful approaches to the understanding of how human language works:
    • Comparative research on the diversity and uniformity of the languages of the world - from Malay to Mohawk, Japanese to Javanese, Arabic to American Sign Language, Turkish to Tuscan Italian, focusing on syntax, semantics, phonology, phonetics and morphology. Delaware is one of the few linguistics departments with a generative orientation that emphasizes field work and the study and documentation of endangered languages. Experimental research on language acquisition in infants, children, and adults, language processing in adults, and the neural and genetic bases of language and its relation to other mental processes. The department is especially strong in language acquisition. This is a major area of research for three members of the Department and a secondary research area for two more, making Delaware one of the strongest departments in the country in language acquisition.
