I am amazed at the volume of information I found on the sites. The dedication and fascination of their authors is evident in all of them. They are all labors of love For more lighthouse resources, go to any of these web sites. Whether they are sites selling lighthouse collectibles or artwork, or strictly informational sites, they all have links to other sites..........lots of links, pages and pages in some cases. They put so much work put into these sites, I don't know how they find time to actually go visit a lighthouse Lighthouse Information, Photos and Links

Whitlock's Mill Lighthouse This is the northernmost light in Maine. In 1892, a red lantern was hung on a tree here, and tended by Mr. Whitlock who had a lath mill nearby. In 1909 the current light the last one built in Maine was erected, along with the bell tower (fog signal) and the keeper's residence. The tower is brick, painted white, on a granite foundation, and lined inside with white enamel brick. It is 12 feet in diameter at its base, and is 25 feet in height, rising 29 feet above mean high water. Inside, access to the top is via cast iron steps. The octagonal lantern area has a narrow iron walkway outside. Operation of the light is now automated. The pyramid-shaped, wood-shingled bell house is adjacent to the light, although the bell no longer resides inside.

    International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend.
AN ANNUAL AMATEUR RADIO EVENT. The International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend came into being from the
    Scottish Northern Lighthouses award weekend
. Over the past 7 years it has grown to over
380 lighthouses in some 51 countries around the world participating in the event. The event is always held on the 3rd full weekend in August starting at 0001 UTC on Saturday and finishing at 2359 UTC on Sunday. It also now coincides on the Sunday with the International Lighthouse Day which is an event organised by the International Association of Lighthouse keepers wherby as many world lighthouses will be open to the public for the day. The basic objective of the event is to promote public awareness of lighthouses and lightships
and their need for preservation and restoration, to promote amateur radio
    and to foster International goodwill.
The event is NOT a contest, each station's operators decide how they will operate
their station regards modes and bands. Participants are not committed to
being on the air during the entire period - only as much as they can.

Montauk, New York Tower Restoration Project Please make a donation online For the first time in its two hundred year history, the Montauk Point Lighthouse Tower will undergo a major restoration. This project began in early March '98, and will be completed in the Fall of '98. An area of approximately fifty feet will be cordoned off to the public while the structure is undergoing its facelift. Minimal interruption will take place for visitors at the museum while this restoration takes place. The firm contracted to do the restoration on the tower is International Chimney Corp., headquartered in Buffalo, New York. The project will be supervised by Joe Jakubik from International Chimney. He has supervised and managed such projects as; restoration of Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, relocation of the Southeast Lighthouse, Block Island, Rhode Island, restoration of the Brandywine Shoal Lighthouse, Cape May', New Jersey, and Boiler House Chimney Replication at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C. REASONS FOR THE RESTORATION In the early spring of 1997, an inspection of the tower, which included a video taping of the structure, revealed several bulges in the brickwork, water runoff coming off the brickwork, which could cause droppage, as well as several loose bricks. The study also revealed severe corrosion to the metal under the deck at the top of the tower.

Montague Island tours for International Lighthouse Day
    Media release - 15/08/2002
NPWS is celebrating the first International Lighthouse Day with Montague Island Tours hosting an open day for local accommodation businesses this Sunday, August 18th 2002. Montague Island Lighthouse has magnificent views to the coast from Tuross to Bermagui and beyond, standing guard day and night just 7 kilometres from Narooma, protected and preserved within the Montague Island Nature Reserve. The NPWS invites local accommodation businesses to adventure out to the Island on a complimentary guided tour from 9.30am to approximately 1.30pm. A limit of two persons per business can come, and bookings will be on a first-come-first-served basis. NPWS particularly extends the invitation to those who have yet to experience the tour. This trip will include an exploration of the light tower itself, the old keepers' quarters, and a sausage sizzle lunch on the lawns.

South Solitary Island celebrates International Lighthouse Day
    Media release - 15/08/2002
Sunday 18th August is International Lighthouse Day and the NPWS is taking the opportunity to highlight the significance of the historic lighthouse on South Solitary Island, which is a familiar, but largely mysterious, landmark off the coast of Coffs Harbour. NPWS Coffs Coast Area Manager Glenn Storrie said the South Solitary Island Lighthouse sits as an isolated and romantic icon from a more hazardous era of ocean navigation and was critical in the development of Australia's coastal trade. "International Lighthouse Day is an important reminder of Australia's maritime heritage. "South Solitary lighthouse and its cottages were built in 1880 and are thought to be the earliest mass concrete lighthouse construction in Australia. Local historians regard the cottages as the oldest houses in the Coffs Harbour District. "Lighthouse keepers and their families were used to living in remote locations, but even they regarded South Solitary Island as the most isolated place in NSW" said Mr Storrie.
