The SCSA Zone V1 Cricket Confederation was born out of two schoolboy cricket tours, which took place between Namibia and Botswana in 1989 and 1990. The foundation fathers Steven Jones (Namibia Cricket Board) and Neill Armstrong (Botswana Cricket Association) established the Zone V1 Cricket Confederation with three main objects in mind:
  • Firstly to ensure that the game of cricket would develop and expand throughout the Zone V1 Member countries.

ARH 324 SOUTHERN AFRICA INTRODUCTION: First taught in the Spring Semester, 1995-96, this course grows out of the experience of Professor Drake as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Lesotho, 1991-93. His interest in the region began then and, though not an expert, he brings an abiding interest to the subject. The course will provide an overview of the Southern African region (rather than a country-by-country analysis), with special attention to Lesotho and South Africa. More than half of the course will concentrate on South Africa, particularly in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries. ASSIGNED READING:

Conventional weapons systems, so decisive in conflicts where military is pitched against military, have little real effect in maintaining the security of civilian populations during and after wars. The majority of casualties, of abuses of authority and of indiscriminate killings are caused by the availability and use of small arms.
Since small arms and light weapons, which include landmines, machine guns, grenades, pistols and rocket launchers, are standard issue during violent conflict and are not normally controlled during post-conflict processes, the potential of these weapons for illegal use - and abuse - is substantial. Because conflict resolution processes depend on socio-economic development, effective democracy and security (as seen in a credible law and order structure), these remedies require time and stability for their successful implementation. If there is indiscriminate access to the tools of violence (i.e., weapons), stability will be harder to maintain and development in time of peace will not take place.
Seldom, if ever, have all weapons been collected at the end of an armed struggle. Physical security, primacy and economic necessity generate the force that propels the trade in small arms;

Elaborate mosques and palaces reflect the Islamic influence in the use of barrel vaulting and ornate decorative motifs on doors and windows. In the area that is now Zimbabwe, traditions of monumental stone architecture initiated by the Great Zimbabwe culture continue on a smaller scale. Beginning in the ninth century, trade networks link East Africa to Asia and the Middle East. This period is marked by first encounters with Europeans , primarily Portuguese traders , and subsequent struggles for control over the Indian Ocean trade networks. One site of this confrontation is the region south of the Zambezi River in present-day Mozambique and eastern Zimbabwe, where routes carrying precious metals and ivory to the coast are dominated by the emergent Mutapa state in the 1500s. In Ethiopia, the Early Solomonic period is one of intense scholarly and artistic production, including manuscripts, architecture, and panel paintings for the Orthodox Christian Church.
The Bantu migration from the Cameroon-Gabon area to the coasts of East and South Africa concludes. Among other things, Bantu-speaking peoples introduce
