How to bring atrocity criminals to justice
By David Scheffer
Financial Times, Wednesday February 2, 2005, p. 13 It is unsurprising that the United Nations Darfur inquiry has concluded that
the atrocities occurring in the west Sudanese region did not constitute a policy
of genocide. Rather, the five experts found that widespread and systematic

S an Jose Mercury News Roe vs. Wade
What does John Roberts think of the controversial 1973 Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion? That's the question on just about everybody's mind heading into the Supreme Court nominee's confirmation hearings that start in little more than two weeks. But here are two more questions to ponder. Should it be asked? And should it be answered? ...``Federal courts do a lot more in today's world than they did 100 years ago and . . . senators and presidents should have a clearer sense of who they are appointing,'' said Vikram David Amar, a professor at the University of California Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. He says judges can give their views on past decisions without prejudicing themselves, so long as they don't promise to vote in a certain way on the issue in the future. more SF Recorder Calif.
