Like the Haitian people, Vodou spirits came from Africa, and they have been profoundly affected by slavery and hard won freedom. To honor and serve these spirits, Haitians create ceremonial art based on African models and influenced by Catholic, Masonic and other spiritual traditions. The sacred arts of Vodou are the outstanding achievement of a great people and their incomparable gift to the world. This online companion to Sacred Arts of Haitian Vodou is intended to capture the essence of the past exhibition as well as the living, breathing spirit of Vodou today. Main Entrance SL Home Teachers' Responses
During the course of the pilot we asked classroom teachers, among other things, for their opinions about the Latin sessions, their perceptions of their roles in monitoring the Latin sessions, the extent to which the use of electronic resources led to an improvement of their own ICT skills, the use of ICT as a learning tool and so on.
Perceived role of the classroom teacher in the classroom When asked about how they perceive their role in the Latin sessions, teachers said:
"Not so teacher led. I stand back and let them get on with it more"
"It is completely different. I am just giving them instructions, not talking to them so much."
"I am there to help them rather than to teach them. I do not know if you could do it if you were not prepared to learn along with them."
"Being a facilitator; in my other lessons I act a lot (which I tend to do in these sessions too). But I believe in my language lessons I spoon-feed them more."
"Less addressing the whole class, less teaching. It is really an extension of what I do anyway (individual attention). I guess I am monitoring their learning as opposed to dictating what happens in the classroom."
