!Que Rico! is a subgroup of the Carolina Hispanic Association. Our dance routine includes an unchoreographed version of Rueda. Rueda is simply a Cuban style of Salsa in which the performers, 10 Que Rico couples, dance in a circle performing various routines that are simultaneously called out by the lead choreographer. Rueda as it is danced at nightclubs or social gatherings is very spontaneous, the dancers must know the moves before hand, and anyone can call out the next move at anytime. Que Rico also performs Salsa, Merengue, Reggeton, and other forms of Latin Dance. When a limited amount of performers are present, Que Rico dances free style, which incorporates any given move to the dancers original and unique style. Migration and Culture
North Carolina's classrooms are becoming more and more diverse. Since the mid-1990s, immigration to North Carolina has risen by 73%, the largest such increase in the nation. This presentation will explore the reasons why families migrate, including "push" and "pull" factors, the process of immigration, and the cultural differences that immigrants face. Prior to the program, students will be encouraged to ask their families about past migratory experiences. Their responses will serve as a starting point for a discussion about the history of migration to and within North Carolina. Then, students will be introduced to several real-life child immigrant stories describing the challenges of immigration and the things that were

With this in mind, it is necessary that students understand key concepts and terms. They need to understand that prejudice Racism , as the suffix "-ism" suggests, is systemic racial hatred; hatred and discrimination that have become public policy and social norms. Students must also understand how people on both sides of this token economy have bought into its dictates. How have whites come to believe that they were the superior race over the years, and how have blacks come to believe it as well – which begins to foster the phenomenon of light-skinned blacks discriminating against dark-skinned blacks. This has been quite an occurrence within the U.S., but is a substantial issue in Brazil as well. Only systemic racism can breed the peculiar traditions centered around interracial racism, which is rarely discussed among laymen race scholars.

Latin-American student activities are growing in popularity on campus. Under the guidance of the LASS coordinator, Latino students promote their heritage through cultural, educational, spiritual and social activities.
The University joins in the national celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month . Our Latin-American celebration extends from mid-September through mid-October.
