GUIDES TO RESOURCES FOR CONDUCTING RESEARCH
A Sourcebook for Hispanic Literature and Language: A Selected, Annotated Guide to Spanish, Spanish-American, and United States Hispanic Bibliography, Literature, Linguistics, Journals, and Other Source Materials
The third edition of this sourcebook, it is also the most recent guide to the field. In addition to annotated lists of sources, the editor offers information on the research process and style guides. The section on research would be most useful to someone who is unfamiliar with that process. The literary sections are organized chronologically and divided between Spain and Spanish America, with the bulk of the sources on Spain. Unique to this source is a section on Hispanic literature in the United States and Cuba. The linguistics chapter treats Spanish as a whole. There is an author index. Information for Applicants
Aims Entry requirements Course Structure Course Design ... Contacts
Aims of the course
The MA in Latin American Studies is a structured but exceptionally flexible programme of study and research designed for graduates who want to develop a specialized interest in aspects of Latin American culture and institutions. It may also be used to fulfil the 'training year' requirements of the current AHRB / British Academy funding scheme. Entry requirements
The Department normally asks for a first or upper-second class honours, or the international equivalent, in a first degree in any branch of Hispanic Studies. We also consider applications from graduates in other disciplines who have relevant language skills. International students will be required to demonstrate a good level of spoken and written English. (The minimum required is equivalent to a TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based), or an IELTS score of 6.0). Course structure
The MA can be taken full-time (over one year) or part-time (over two years). The one-year version consists of two 15-week semesters of taught modules (the first from September to January, the second January to June), followed by a period of individual research.

Latin American Literature The Collection Related Collections Related Internet Resources Essential References The Collection
Prior to 1945, Mexican and Latin American poetry, drama, and music were acquired regularly by the Harris Collection. At that time, Latin American and Mexican acquisitions were effectively curtailed, although some titles were sporadically added. In 1975, formal acquisitions by purchase for Latin American and Mexican materials for the Harris Collection ceased. Some small additions by gift continue to be made.
However, Chicana/o and Puerto Rican poetry, drama, and music are still actively collected. Since many authors may move between regions and cultures, acquisitions decisions are based primarily on an evaluation of the writer's identification, rather than legal citizenship or residence. The existence of publishers that specifically concentrate in this material, such as Arte Publico and Bilingual Review Press helps in the identification of authors to be included in the Collection.
There are approximately 3,500 titles of Latin American, Chicana/o, and Puerto Rican literature in the Harris Collection. Older materials (primarily prior to 1945) may be found in the
