INTERNAL SUBDIVISIONS
By Prof. M. Izady There exist "fossilized" records of two major historical subdivisions of Kurdistan, each following an epoch of ethnic homogenization. They have left their marks in the dialects spoken by the Kurds, their material culture, the elements of their religious beliefs, and their world outlook. Detailed analyses of the elements causing and/or fortifying the contemporary internal subdivisions , as well as the earlier ones, are found in the sections on Language Religion Historical Migrations A long episode of southeast-to-northwest migration of the Kurds culturally homogenized Kurdish society by the end of 3rd century AD. This homogeneity was subsequently diluted by a four-centuries-long separation of northern and western Kurdistan in Anatolia, which had come under the jurisdiction and/or influence of the Byzantines, from the rest of Kurdistan in the Muslim domains (see Medieval History

Central Kurdistan.
Central Kurdistan has always tilted towards Mesopotamia, and its history is connected to that region. Like southern Kurdistan, it has an urban-oriented past, but the climate and terrain are not very much like southern Kurdistan. Central Kurdistan is the least mountainous, and on average, the warmest part of Kurdistan. In fact, the area is often referred to as garmasir

Imperialism: Petrol, the Middle East and the Caucasus
    By TKP/ML 1997
The brutality in the Middle East existed for a long time within a two-poled world system. Today the world's imperialist hegemony seems to have triple polarity. This will increase the dimension of the conflicts in the region, and it will be even worse in the Middle East. Today, the imperialists of the USA, the members of the European Union and Japan form these three poles. Nowadays, the importance of petrol is continuing to have the same effects on human life as before. "The word petrol is derived from Latin and means 'rock oil' (Petrol Oleum). It has been considered that petrol was used for the first time by Phoenicians for caulking ships." "It is known that the first users of petrol were Sumerians, Assyrians, and Babylonians. Five thousands years ago, Tutul, on the banks of the River Euphrates, was one of the asphalt production centres in that area. It has been known that the ancient Egyptians used liquid petrol as a purgative and dermal medicine. Persians used to dip their arrows' fibre ends into liquid petrol during the siege of Athens in 480 BC." (1) If we leave aside this type usage of petrol in ancient history, petrol was produced deliberately for the first time in the year 1859.

    Kurds in Israel
    Dear Sir,
Just know that there are 160000 Kurdish Jews in Israel.
We wish to ask for your kind help in 4 subjects:
    A. There is a great interest among the youngsters in the geography of Kurdistan, but no map is available. So, we want to translate to Hebrew language a good map of Kurdistan (Iraqi, Iranian, Syrian, Turkish and former USSR parts). We would be most appreciative to get map(s) with all towns and villages (even those that unfortunately does not exist any more).
    B. As it is a great interest in the Kurdish language, we wish to prepare a Kurdish-Hebrew-Kudish dictionary, which is the basis to study the language and culture.
We would be most appreciative to get: 1. A Kurdish-Kurdish (Kurmanci) dictionary in Latin letters.
    2. A Grammar book of Sorani Kurdish language in Arabic letters.
    3. A book about the translation rules from arabic to Latin letters.
    4. True Type Fonts (TTF) of Arabic and Latin Kurdish fonts.
Of coarse we shall send you on the spot the money it costs.
    C. A list of all universities in the world where you can study the Kurdish language.
