Vietnamese The Cuisine of Korea Pictured above; A Korean Temple Find great prices on similar books Authentic Recipes From Korea The Best of Korean Cuisine Korean home cooking Korean cuisine is very reminiscent of Japanese and Chinese cuisines as the Koreans use similar techniques in preparing food with a few variations. Korean food can be more spicier that Chinese or Japanese food and less oily than the Chinese dish. Chili and ginger are popular in Korea while the Koreans use less seafood than the Japanese.
The staple food is rice, Koreans eat a medium-grain "sticky" rice which is also common in Japan. Rice is sometimes mixed with barley or soybeans for flavor and nutrition. Rice noodles and bean curd are common starch substitutes or additions.
Much Korean cooking is done in a clay stewing pot known as a tukbaege. These produce gorgeous casseroles and stews that might combine fish or meat with potatoes. Generally Koreans like to pickle their vegetables and may eat pickles every day.
At dinner time, a Korean family sits on the floor around a low table. A meal is built around a mound of plain, steamed rice, which is eaten with thin chopsticks. A grilled or stir-fried main course is supplemented by a soup and perhaps a salad, along with an array of sauces, pickles, and other condiments. The meal is never placed in a disorderly fashion The plates are placed out in neat lines with attention also placed on the colors of the food arrangement.

Vietnamese Korean Beer Pictured above; Cass Beer Find great prices on similar books Authentic Recipes From Korea The Best of Korean Cuisine Korean home cooking Beer has had an increase in popularity in recent years in Korea, especially with a falling tax rate for beer. In the early 1990s there were 3 major players in the Korean beer market who were Hite Breweries, Oriental Brewery and Jinro Coors Brewing Co. the maker of Cass. Oriental once owned the largest market share in Korea sometimes nearing 70%. but by 1994 Hite had risen to become the most popular beer. With Jinro Coors facing financial hardship in the 1999 Oriental Breweries purchased the struggling brewer and soon rose to a 51% market share above Hite. More beer tax cuts are expected in the future and many market experts expect good fortunes for the Korean beer market. The other popular drink in Korea is a tradional drink called soju which is a tasteless liquor similar to vodka or gin. There are other types of wines made from rice, plums, herbs and even chrysanthemum or ginseng that are also very popular. Cass Cass Breweries was taken over by Oriental Breweries in 1999 who make OB larger and Cafri premium larger. Cass is a 5.0% larger which is one of the 3 most popular beers in Korea. Sold bottled or on tap in Korea its a fairly pale larger reminiscent of many an Asian pale larger.

Trains, flames and Korean cooking
In between the European and San Marino Grands Prix there seemed to be no point in going home for a couple of days and so the plan was to drive south from the Nurburgring, through southern Germany and Switzerland and into Italy. In the Springtime we figured the glorious lakes of northern Italy would be a splendid place to spend a few days before heading on to Imola. In the finest tradition of very simple - and cheap - plans it all went horribly wrong. German hire cars companies seem to be of the opinion that no car in northern Italy is safe from theft and do everything they can to stop their clients heading south of the border. Apparently they disappear faster than stray dollar bills at FOCA meetings. In order to dissuade people from taking their cars south the hire car companies have an exorbitant drop-off charge. If you want to hire a car in Frankfurt and hand it back in Milan, you will be asked to pay the princely sum of $1200 - which in Milan one could use to buy quite a useful car. In F1 terms the idea of catching a train has the same kind of stigma as being caught performing immoral acts with animals. F1 people drive cars. Fast cars. They have jets. Trains are definitely not chic. You occasionally see a Grand Prix driver on a Bullet Train in Japan but that is only because even millionaires cannot afford to rent helicopters in Japan.

Adams Advertiser Food Editor Bibim bap can be a simple meal or a complex preparation of up to 30 ingredients. Chae Won Choe says he's convinced that the secret to making good kim chee is held only by Korean aunties and grandmothers. But anybody can make bibim bap. Rice, a scattering of fresh or prepared vegetables, a few strips of grilled meat or even fish or chicken, an egg (raw or fried) and a little Korean hot sauce. What could be more straightforward? "To me, this is home," said Choe, as he prepared a version of bibim bap making use of intriguing prepared vegetable mixtures found in local Korean grocery stores.

ISBN: 8973002996 Chang Sun-young graduated from Ewha Womans University and worked in the administration office of her alma mater for 10 years until her family moved to the United States where her husband had been sent by his company. She and her husband then moved to Indonesia and, after several years, to the Philippines. She returned to Korea in 1983 and now lives in Kihung, a village near Seoul. During her prolonged residence abroad, cooking became her favorite pastime, especially in Indonesia and the Philippines, where she greatly missed her two sons who were attending school in the United States and lived in expectation of their visits during school vacations. She experimented with all kinds of recipes to treat her family and friends. Her sons married Koreans, both daughters of high school classmates, and set up homes in San Francisco. At the request of her daughters-in-law, she began to write recipes of family favorites for them. Soon, the recipes and tips for easy cooking faxed across the Pacific piled up enough to make a book. Ms. Chang became a celebrity when the first Korean edition of this cookbook, which was published under the title A Cookbook for My Daughters-In-Law (Myonuri ege chunun yori chaek), appeared in bookstores and became a runaway best seller. She has her own cooking show on the Hyundai cable TV channel and writes a weekly column, ""Housewife Chang Sun-young' s Menu of the Week"" in The Hankook Ilbo, a leading daily newspaper.
