Kids' Pledge
I will tell my parents right away if I come across any information that makes me feel uncomfortable. I will never agree to get together with someone I "meet" online without first checking with my parents. If my parents agree to the meeting, I will be sure that it is in a public place and bring my mother or father along. I will never send a person my picture or anything else without first checking with my parents. I will not respond to any messages that are mean or in any way make me feel uncomfortable. It is not my fault if I get a message like that. If I do I will tell my parents right away so that they can contact the service provider. I will talk with my parents so that we can set up rules for going online. We will decide upon the time of day that I can be online, the length of time I can be online, and appropriate areas for me to visit. I will not access other areas or break these rules without their permission. I will not give out my Internet password to anyone (even my best friends) other than my parents.

Exploited Children's Curriculum Scorecard: An Issue to Address
S.A.F.E. Network's office recently received a phone call from the NCMEC regarding a couple of typographical errors we had on this website regarding their organization. We immediately corrected these errors. There was also some concern about using their logo as a link to their page. We were unaware that it might imply favoritism to our organization on their part, we have
also corrected this as well.
Their last concern created a little bit of a problem, for me at least. If I under-
stood her correctly they felt that the use of their curriculum scorecard was inappropriate and wanted us to remove it from the website. I explained that if a program or curriculum met their guidelines that the only way to indicate that to the general public was to show what the NCMEC expected, and which areas our program conformed to their expectations.
The individual I spoke with was very gracious and in no way intimidating. Their concern was our representation of the NCMEC's curriculum scorecard on the website, again seeming to endorse our organization's materials. I can only assume that they may have feared that somehow people might get the idea that the Center is endorsing a work not of their own creation. I assured her that I would make the changes necessary so that it cannot be construed to be affiliated or endorsed by the National Center in any way.

Trick or Treat
General Halloween Safety
To get the most out of Trick or Treating, be safe and use Good Common Sense. Listed below are some general safety tips.
Parents, for a more detailed listing, select the Detailed Halloween Safety.
Costumes
Be sure your costume is NOT too long. You don't want to be tripping over it. If you wear a mask, be sure you can see out of it clearly Consider using FACE PAINT instead of a mask, because you will be able to see better. It is a good idea to wear clothing with reflective tape. Carry a white bag for your candy or a bag with reflective tape on it.
Trick or Treating
Be sure your parents know where you are going. Take along a couple of quarters for emergency phone calls. Go with a group or 3 or more people. If you feel unsafe, take along an adult. Do NOT ride a bicycle. Your costume could get hung up in it. Carry a Flash Light. Walk on a sidewalk. If a sidewalk is not available, walk on the left side of the road facing traffic. Cross busy streets at a intersection or cross walk Be sure to look both ways (2 times) before crossing the street.

In particular, the military family support center in San Antonio asked for car seats for families evacuated from Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi. These families have lost all of their belongings. Two major car seat manufacturers — Evenflo and Graco — answered the call with donations and special purchase plans through Mercury Distributing that enabled Safe Kids Worldwide to provide $20,000 worth of safety equipment to local Safe Kids coalitions in Texas communities receiving and transporting displaced families. Our longtime partners at General Motors and Chevrolet came through on short notice with the necessary funds, and GM also donated 25 vehicles with unlimited OnStar service to be used in relief operations.
