Parents' biggest concern about the Internet used to be
pornography, but there is definitely a greater fear today. You have probably taught your child not to talk to strangers, and in many situations, they would remember this. But the Internet is different. Due to the Internet's anonymity, strangers are talking to children all the time. They try to gain the child's trust by having friendly conversation at first, but over time, their true objective of sexually soliciting the child becomes evident. Children and parents alike are unaware of this, yet this is exactly what is going on via the Internet.

Cars Not Candy, Should be Parents Primary Safety Concern on Halloween Washington, D.C. Although many parents and caregivers worry about hidden dangers in their child’s candy on Halloween, they should be more concerned about their child’s safety as a pedestrian that evening. Each year, more than 650 children are hit by cars and killed and another 20,000 are injured and on Halloween, that number rises dramatically. In fact, children are four times more likely to suffer a pedestrian-related fatality on Halloween than any other night of the year. That’s why the National SAFE KIDS Campaign is urging parents to take precautions to keep their kids safe this Halloween. Check out the Campaign's Halloween Safety Checklist in both English (PDF) and Spanish (PDF).

October 2004 Congressional Hearing Linda Ginzel, KID co-founder and president, was the first to testify following US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) chairman Hal Stratton at a Congressional hearing on October 6. The House Sub-committee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection held an oversight hearing entitled, "Children's Product Safety: Do Current Standards Provide Enough Protection?" At the end of Linda's testimony, it was clear the answer was an emphatic 'no.' September is National Baby Safety Month Without mandatory premarket testing and an average of two children's products recalled each week, it is difficult to keep babies and children safe. Here are a few things you can do this month to increase the safety of your child:
