Visitors will learn to identify the various ways settlers met their food needs and the responsibilities of the Gage family members in making these preparations. Hands-on activities such as apple drying and open-hearth cooking will provide visitors with and understanding of the work involved in the harvest season and what it was like to be a child in the early 1800s. The program addresses the Grade three Social Studies curriculum expectations: Pioneer Life. It is also ideal for a Kindergarten class due to the tactile and vocabulary-building learning environment.
