How Kentucky Performs on the National Level
NAEP
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) is also known as "The Nation's Report Card." NAEP has been conducting assessments since 1969. NAEP's 2000 math and science assessments showed that Kentucky's 8th-graders made significant progress from 1996 to 2000 in those subjects. Kentucky 4th-grade readers started out two points below the national average in 1992, equaled the national average in 1994, and moved three points above it in 1998. In 2003, the score was 219, three points higher than the national average. In both math and science, 8th-graders gained five points between 1996 and 2000, which NAEP considers "statistically significant." In science, Kentucky's 8th-graders' 2003 average score of 266 was five points above the national average. And, according to NAEP, nearly 30 percent of Kentucky's 4th-graders and 8th-graders are at or above proficient in those subjects.

The Fatal Experience Driving Simulation is a way teens can gain real-life exposure to the perils of impaired driving without being put at risk. On Wednesday, September 28, the Kentucky Crime Prevention Coalition and the GRADD US 60 Corridor Safety Task Team will have the simulator vehicle at Henderson County High School from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The event will take place in the parking lot at the rear of the school, closest to the baseball field.
Senior students will have an opportunity to drive the vehicle while wearing glasses called “Fatal vision goggles” that give the feeling of being impaired. A trained mentor in the front passenger seat rides along with the “impaired” driver and up to two rear seat passengers (students).
The Kentucky State Police will also have the “Rollover Simulator” on hand for students to experience a vehicle rollover effect in a safe environment. Students will be given sobriety tests while wearing the glasses that cause “impairment”.

Digital Storytelling in the Scott County Schools Georgetown, Kentucky In November 2002, the Scott County Digital Storytelling Center became a reality through a collaborative venture between the Scott County Schools and the Scott County Public Library. Weekday afternoons and evenings, community members meet at the Scott County Public Library to work on their stories. Students, teachers, and library support staff work together with community members to assist them in telling their stories digitally.
On this website we will share information and resources that we hope will help others tell their digital stories in ways we and others have started telling them. This website will eventually take on a life of its own and you will want to return time and time again to see our new developments and perhaps to make your own contributions. You may want to know that our counter has turned over twice resulting in over 20,000 hits! This page was last updated Tuesday, June 21, 2005
