Kentucky GeoQuest In this KET-produced series, a young geographer named Molly is at work on the next atlas of Kentucky. Much to her amazement, she acquires the services of a talking cardinal, Ricky Redbird, who, unfortunately, has little knowledge of the place he represents as the official state bird. To learn about Kentucky, Ricky joins Molly on her cross-state quest to document the rich history of the Kentucky landscape and examine present-day life in the Bluegrass State.

This integrates social and natural science approaches to focus on human-environment interaction. Courses allow students to explore global environmental issues, from deforestation to ozone depletion, in both North and South, dynamics of environmental systems, environmental law and policy, environmental history and philosophy. Students also engage a range of methods used by geographers, including in-depth interviews, surveys, focus groups, mapping techniques with GPS and GIS systems, and statistical analysis.
