Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence
Safety - Accountability - Justice
She was someone's daughter. She was our daughter.
She was someone's sister. She was our sister."
MISSION
The Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence (KCSDV) is a network of programs reaching across the state, helping us unify on a state level to end battering and sexual assault wherever it occurs. Our primary focus is on providing support and safety to the victims of these crimes through the direct services of our member programs. The major work of the Coalition is to support this network of services by increasing public awareness through education and advocacy, exploring new options for services and funding, and by working for social change.
GOALS
  • To build coalition among service providers to promote communication, support, and networking to ensure comprehensive services. To develop research and data collection systems which document the incidences of sexual and domestic violence and the availability of services. To establish and expand services for victims of sexual and domestic violence in Kansas, with primary focus on women and children.

Release: April 13, 2005 KANSAS FAMILIES FACE CHALLENGES TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY A new study commissioned by Kansas Action for Children indicates that more than a quarter of all family households with children under the age of 18 in the state have incomes below what is needed to meet basic monthly expenses, putting the health and well-being of thousands of Kansas children at risk. The Kansas Household Self-Sufficiency Standard examines what a family needs to be financially self-sufficient, without government support, and it shows that proposed cuts to federal programs will have an extremely detrimental effect on those families who are struggling to meet basic needs. “This new study gives us a better picture of the income needed to be self-sufficient in Kansas, and it documents that many vulnerable families face overwhelming challenges to make ends meet,” said Gary Brunk, Executive Director of Kansas Action for Children. “Ideally all workers could find employment that allowed them to be self-sufficient, but the study makes clear that tens of thousands of working families do not have jobs that help them cross that threshold.”

Former Senator Larry Salmans was the guest speaker, Barry Ward provided music for the third year in a row, and Reverend Dick Robbins performed the invocation and benediction. Also present this year were the flags of the countries where our Veterans have served in different wars and conflicts. VFW Post 1714 performed the Military Honors and representatives of VFW Post 1520 Ladies Auxiliary and American Legion Post 107 Ladies Auxiliary placed wreaths in Memory of The Unknown Soldier and all Veterans. Many compliments were received about the quality of the program as well as compliments about the professionalism of the cemetery staff and the attractiveness of the cemetery grounds. It takes a community of supporters to assure the success of any program and the Management and Staff thank all who attended the Memorial Day service.
