A little about our club. The Indiana University Judo Club is a club associated with Indiana University division of Recreational Sports . The IU Judo Club was formed to practice and teach others the art of Judo. The IU Judo Club meets many times a week and frequently goes to competitions. Judo is a martial art and competitive sport founded and developed in Japan. Judo is practiced around the world and an Olympic sport. The art of Judo consists of Throws, ground fighting, self-defense, katas, and a great deal more. Who is the Club Open To?
The IU Judo Club is open to students and staff of Indiana University and the general public . People of any experience level are welcome to join us and practice, learn, and even compete. Even if you have never taken a martial arts class or been involved with any kind of sport. The club meets many times a week and has a head coach and a multitude of upper ranking students who help instruct. Where does the Club Practice?
The IU Judo Club practices on the Indiana University campus at the Hper building room 095 . To see our club just come during our practices to room . If you do not know where that is just go to member services at the entrance and they will assist you.

In 1922 judo founder Jigoro Kano resigned from his position as head of the Japan Amateur Athletic Association because he disagreed with its policy of encouraging professionals to enter international competition in hope of inflating Japanese medal counts. [ ] A few years later, Kano told Olympic leader Pierre de Coubertin that judo was inappropriate for inclusion in the Olympics because it was not a sport but a school of life: judo, said Kano, was not a game, but instead it was "like a church, it teaches a man a moral sense." [ ] In 1933, Kano told the young British judoka Trevor Leggett that, while he had nothing against competition, he was against championships; to his thinking, championships degraded people by placing too much emphasis on winning. [ ] Finally, during a luncheon speech given at the Pan-Pacific Club in Tokyo on June 14, 1935, Kano complained that "competition sometimes makes men go to extremes and results in their doing themselves serious internal injury."[ So, despite the International Olympic Committee announcing on March 16, 1938 that judo, kendo, and kyudo (Japanese archery) would be demonstration sports featured at the 1940 Olympics, [
